What to eat (alone)?

I'm going to be alone for 5 days over Christmas and need to find something to eat, mostly for Christmas Day
I don't cook on Christmas Day Grin apart from possibly switching the oven on
So far I'm thinking one of those party snack selection things and making some nachos
Anything else good I should get? Using sainsburys to shop if it helps!

Do you like cheese? The cheese bakes are fantastic and comforting. Especially with crusty bread (part baked sourdough) and cranberry sauce.

catwithflowers · 23/11/2020 19:44

What kind of food do you like?

QueenPaws · 23/11/2020 19:45

I like anything except offal and pistachios Grin

I actually had the Camembert thing last year, which came with bread so might see what they have. Some form of pudding and custard will feature I imagine

@catwithflowers anything that's why I've been dieting for months
I go to my friends for lunch and she just puts food in front of me as I'm the least fussy person ever Grin

If you really don't want to cook and are looking for a nice ready meal kind of thing from Sainsbury's, my first thought was Chinese duck with pancakes. You could buy some nice spring rolls to have with it and maybe some prawn toast. You do have to put the oven on but no actually cooking involved 😉

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 23/11/2020 19:49

Id have toasted bagels topped with cream cheese and smoked salmon for breakfast with a glass of fizz.

During the day I'd snack on pretzels, nuts, olives, cherries.

Evening time I'd have a baked camembert with crusty bread and chutney and the rest of the fizz

Lindy2 · 23/11/2020 19:50

If it was me I'd buy a few of the posh party platters, some good wine and a fancy desert. I'd then graze as much as I wanted over the Christmas period. If I needed any extra I'd phone for whatever takeaway took my fancy.

I hope you are able to have a nice time despite this year being so different.

🤣🤣. I'm also very i fussy but love to cook.

QueenPaws · 23/11/2020 19:51

Ohhhh bagels! Yes!

My list is getting longer Grin but I can eat it over the 5 days
So far I have
Bagels and cream cheese
Nachos
Some dessert with custard
Chinese snack selection for the oven (plus seaweed to avoid scurvy)

does it have to be sainsbury , m and s do wonderful party type snacks - chinese dumplings, tapas things.

whats the budget? If I could spend a little more I would be trying stuff I have never have like caviar etc

QueenPaws · 23/11/2020 19:51

@catwithflowers I love cooking but I live alone so I cook every single meal and I refuse to do it at Christmas!

QueenPaws · 23/11/2020 19:53

@TheRubyRedshoes I'm shielding and have priority with sainsburys so preferably
No real budget, I mean not hundreds but I don't drink so I would have to eat a lot to spend that

@SummerHouse that has gone STRAIGHT on the list. Yum

A selection of Spanish ham, chorizo, cheeses and olives with dips??

Trekkerbabe · 23/11/2020 19:54

I know you said sainsburys but you can click and collect M&S festive food and they have lovely meals and cheesy dips and snacks party food that would also suit someone on their own.

MadauntofA · 23/11/2020 19:55

I'd have that along with a nice crispy sour dough, and a Christmas pudding for 8 that I would eat a little of over several days Grin

catwithflowers · 23/11/2020 19:57

To be honest (and if you eat anything) one of my favourite things is pâté de foie gras on toasted brioche. But I know lots of people have an issue with foie gras

Trekkerbabe · 23/11/2020 19:57

Theres a cheddar and ale version of that cheesy bake as well🥳... just ordered both to try this weekend!

TheRubyRedshoes · 23/11/2020 19:58

IF YOU cant get out then I would perhaps add and order some stuff from somewhere fancy like F&M, and hand pick chocolates from audry in brighton - they make chocks for F and M !

Rolopolo2000 · 23/11/2020 19:59

Get some beautiful fresh fruit in - berries etc, mix with Greek yoghurt and sprinkle with crunchy muesli.
That would be my breakfast.

I’d have a really thick warning spicy veg stew that I would have done on the slow cooker before the break and then can just take out to defrost. With lots of honey and soy caramelised carrots and parsnips.

I would have really plump big medjul dates in, that taste like thick sticky caramel... and I’d much on them in front of the TV

Next breakfast I’d have nutty rye bread and squash some avocado in it and have slices of tomato and mushrooms

catwithflowers · 23/11/2020 19:59

OP, my earlier post should have said "I'm not at all fussy" 😅. I'm loving all these suggestions for you!!

QueenPaws · 23/11/2020 20:00

Oh that's a good idea, I've ordered from slatterys before and their chocolates were delicious. You might all have to cut me out the house in January Grin
I'm being fairly sensible so Christmas Eve - Boxing Day then back to my normal diet

Hot chocolate, squirty cream, marshmallows and shortbread biscuits.
Stay safe and well x

ColdCottage · 23/11/2020 20:01

By yourself a cheap 2 tray raclette grill and get the cheese from Waitrose (only place I've found it) some new potatoes, green beans, cornichons, cherry tomatoes and some Milano salami - yum!

CupoTeap · 23/11/2020 20:01

Hmmm, Brie and crusty bread, chocolates, wine, a couple of ready meals/a pizza for when I want something proper. Nuts, crisps, bacon, eggs, wine Grin
