I'm going to be alone for 5 days over Christmas and need to find something to eat, mostly for Christmas Day
I don't cook on Christmas Day Grin apart from possibly switching the oven on
So far I'm thinking one of those party snack selection things and making some nachos
Anything else good I should get? Using sainsburys to shop if it helps!

Tea, cinnamon swirls and different pastries for breakfast, Buck’s Fizz if you drink.

m&s prawn cocktail and crusty bread followed by canapés for lunch/dinner . Prosecco or champagne to go. If not find a lovely juice you like.

Then sticky toffee pudding, for dessert.

Then a cheese board, for afters, with some yummy biscuits.. Port to go. If not good decaf coffee.

Some lovely chocolates to nibble on later.

@QueenPaws

To add before anyone worries, I've been shielding alone since March and I'm quite happy to spend the day with shite films on Netflix, the cat, naps and a shit load of food Grin and no family bickering
Not feeling anything it jealousy Grin
nearlynermal · 23/11/2020 21:44

Lobster, Bloody Mary, salmon bagels and Buck's Fizz: this is getting pretty exciting! Now I just have to find something I haven't already binge watched...

Lovemusic33 · 23/11/2020 21:47

Selection of cheese and pate with crackers.

Macarons (I think Sainsbury’s do them)

Sticky toffee pudding or a chocolate Christmas pudding with custard.

Defo need hot chocolate, squirty cream and mini marshmallows.

One of those, pulled porks/brisket that can be cooked in the microwave?

Mac and cheese, can’t remember the name of the expensive one found in Sainsbury’s, it’s about £5.50 and tastes amazing, they also do a fish pie.

EwwSprouts · 23/11/2020 22:06

M&S do a fab single person fish lasagne in their gastro range.
A bar of chocolate coated marzipan. as marzipan is delicious but xmas cake is not.

Kidneybingo · 23/11/2020 23:25

A very big prawn cocktail.

Palavah · 24/11/2020 11:38

lovely cheese, ham, quality pate, different breads,
breakfast pastries, eggs and smoked salmon, avocado, spinach, bacon, sausage
lovely jam, marmalade, lemon curd
cheesecake
christmas pudding with cream for breakfast
pigs in blankets, cauliflower cheese, bread sauce and stuffing for turkey sandwiches
more cheese
chocolate mousse cake/log/ truffle
pavlova
prawn cocktail

For breakfast I’d have something freshly baked - either cinnamon buns or croissants. You can get them frozen and just pop them in the oven in the morning - that’s what I would do in the case of croissants. I’ll make my own cinnamon buns and freeze them for the day, as that’s what we’re likely to have this year.

QueenPaws · 24/11/2020 11:43

I'm so glad nobody has come on and muttered about salad and obesity crisis Grin
My list is rather long now

Xmas Grin
MadauntofA · 24/11/2020 14:32

I don't think salad belongs on any Christmas table (except for perhaps a little iceberg underneath the prawn cocktail!)

PullTheBricksDown · 24/11/2020 14:39

So many good suggestions. I would cook pigs in blankets on the day and do everything else as buffet as you've said.

HollyandIvyandallthingsYule · 24/11/2020 14:42

Well I don’t know about that...I think something like a chicory salad with pear/apple, St. Agur or Roquefort, walnuts and cranberry would be lovely and might add some welcome freshness and zest! I might add that to my Christmas dinner menu, actually!

I’m hungry now...

Bythehairywartsonmywitchychin · 24/11/2020 14:50

If you’ve got a slow cooker get a small ham joint. You can then have it cold in salads or with crusty bread and nice cheeses ect, and the ham will last for a few days in the fridge.

I’ve had curry for Christmas Day it was probably one of the taste the difference ones. Sainsbury’s also do nice samosas.

QueenPaws · 24/11/2020 14:59

I have a slow cooker Smile it was my nanas so it has an on off switch and that's it Grin no temp controls but works well!

Bythehairywartsonmywitchychin · 24/11/2020 17:01

I’d def get some ham then, you could cook it over night. Or you could do pulled pork or something.

QueenPaws · 25/11/2020 19:38

Right the sainsburys order is in!
The cheese bake thing isn't available so I will stalk it closer to the day

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 25/11/2020 20:08

I would get a turkey crown and veg for 2, have half on xmas day and make turkey curry with the leftovers.

Cinderellashoes · 25/11/2020 20:31

Pickled walnuts, really nice crackers and a cheese board

Tortilla crisps, put on an oven tray with salsa and cheese in the oven for 10 mins. Yummiest snack ever

QueenPaws · 20/12/2020 21:56

Update
Sainsburys don't have the cheese bake thing Angry
I sent my dad to Lidl with a pic of the one they do but they didn't have it either so I sent him back in Grin with instructions for "good crisps/snacks and some form of melty cheese"
I think he delivered with this selection!

Can you order in? Lovely Chinese banquet for two one?

QueenPaws · 20/12/2020 22:54

@drspouse I have also persuaded my dad to go to the nice Indian restaurant near his house who are doing takeaway and bring me a meal banquet
Fully stocked now!

Another one signing up for a solitary Christmas apart from my tribe of cats. A local restaurant are delivering Christmas meals, I am very tempted. The cats aren't so impressed as they like it when I buy a turkey, eat it for a few days then give all the rest to them.

I may also get some baked camemberts, and extra pigs in blankets
