Very very cheap and lovely gifts you've received and loved

Asking out of curiosity really, because some of my favorite gifts throughout the years have been very cheap and i wonder if it also applies to other people as well.

My best friend knitted a lovely scarf for me using letfover yarn and it turned out to be one of my favorite gifts ever. When i was around 18 a good friend gave me a dessert his mom had made for me as an Easter gift and i remember how delicious it was. One of my patients gave me a pair of very cheap earings that i really love and use very frequently because they go with almost all my clothes ans are so 'me'.

My friend makes me muffins and biscuits every year for Christmas and puts them in the lovely box. I love it.

DD is a wonderful artist and makes cards for DH and I every birthday and Christmas.

Home made toffee

How cheap do you mean? I was given some absolutely lovely hand-made soap last year, but I dare say it cost more than a couple of £ per bar.

A BiL’s home-made fudge is another absolute winner. Ditto someone else’s peppermint creams and chilli jam.

An insanely colourful scarf from the local market from a very exuberant friend. I wore it and wore it.

A packet of flower seeds for one of my favourite flowers (I'm a keen gardener and I love seeds as gifts!) when I had recently moved house.

A homemade face mask from my mum recently for my birthday - perfectly designed so my glasses don't steam up at all. Invaluable!!!

Christmas pickle or mince pies - mum again. She always makes a special pickle that we only ever eat at Christmas, and her mince pies are heaven sent.

Probably under £10 but I got a mug with a duck.on it as a volunteer from my manager and I still use it now. It reminds me of the volunteer project and makes me really happy.

One of the most useful gifts I've ever received was a pair of orange plastic chopsticks, each divided into two prongs at the wider end, with a pair of little eyes inset below so it looked like a face. They have come in useful countless times for all sorts of little jobs. I don't think they can have cost very much.

A decorated cake tin. Use it all the time.

A £5 or £10 note is always a winner here. Cheap. No imagination needed. I can buy a coffee and/or a posh cake that I only do every few weeks.

My favourite gift ever came this year from my son. He knows I live gardeners world, so emailed Monty Don and asked him to wish me happy birthday. Someone from his office replied, politely declined as Monty is so busy but wished me a happy birthday on his behalf - the thought however from my son trying to make that happen was amazing. Email printed and saved!

Paperbacks and bars of chocolate are my actual fav gifts every Christmas!

My mum made me a massive rope of colourful glass beads for my Christmas tree, which I love. She also knitted me a Christmas wreath, which is also beautiful and made me a very soft, fluffy scarf. I don't think these were cheap exactly but are my most thoughtful and favourite presents.

A colleague whom I found a bit annoying bought me a bar of chocolate for my birthday once - she knew I liked plain chocolate so she thought about it and got me Frys chocolate cream - which just happens to be the bar I loved as a child (but don't ever buy now). I was so impressed by her thoughtfulness and hitting just the right spot, it made me a bit emotional and I've never forgotten it. Would gave cost < £1 too.

Also DH bought me a necklace years ago - it's silver and has a little square cubic zirconia pendant - it's the perfect length and the cut of the chain catches the light and it's my favourite necklace.

Clary- that's a lovely story. Goes to show it's so often about thought not value.

My mil often buys me little beauty bits in with my birthday and Christmas presents, pack of face wipes, matching shampoo and conditioner, lip balm, cotton wool pads, the odd nail varnish or lip gloss. I love receiving things like that, stuff I really like and will actually use and take pleasure from and remember she bought them when I use them

For me it was a little set of Christmas angels - the type that spin round over candles. Given to me by my sister the year I couldn't go home for Christmas. It was a perfect bit of "home" for me and I just cried because I knew someone understood how I felt about being away from home.

So my big 5oh was in (nz) super strict lockdown... the husband had been working on this little art project for weeks, scraping back bark from our beloved and dead (murdered) grapefruit tree... he then painted it bright white, and did the most incredible etched artwork of it... it is absolutely gorgeous and I love it. It will be our Christmas tree covered in fairy lights.
I had no idea that he was doing this for me, so often I gave out to him (in a loving and joking way)... of all the things you could be doing!
