Gift ideas for middle aged lady - drawing a blank.

She's approaching late 40s. Likes to be a bit younger in the way she dresses and says she doesn't feel her age.

Budget around 20-30 , she has just received a huge bottle of her favourite fragrance so that's a no go.
She doesn't do cook books and so on as she trained in restaurants and prefers to research her own recipes. Cooking gadgets a plenty.

She's quite practical but also a bit partial to something "nice" but not OTT.

Any ideas would be really handy as I'm drawing a blank!

Champagne
Decent candles
Chocolate hamper (hotel chocolat/green & blacks)
6 bottles of wine
Gin (if they like gin obviously)

So my group of middle aged ladies (all in our late 40s-late 50s) and we tend to get each other beauty vouchers. £30 should be enough for a pedi. It goes done well particularly with people who wouldn't normally bother getting a pedi (or manicure) as it is really a treat then.

flalalalala · 22/11/2020 16:30

Candles isn't a bad one actually @converseandjeans
We tend to keep away from alcohol as their partner is a recovering alcoholic and they don't keep it in the house.

@Pipandmum I like that idea but I'm unsure if she would use it as she works in catering and I know she generally needs to keep them short.

If she works in catering and is on her feet all day what about a voucher for a foot massage?

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 22/11/2020 16:33

Nice White Company toiletries.

Flackattack · 22/11/2020 16:33

Personalised Emma Bridgewater mug?
Molton brown?
Posh hair stuff - kerastase l?
Lsa glasses?

namechangeforfriday · 22/11/2020 16:35

A chunky, quirky statement necklace? Oliver Bonas has some nice not too expensive jewellery (I’m younger than her and I like it)

madroid · 22/11/2020 16:38

Something crafty? A tapestry kit/card making/painting?

HerFlowersToLove · 22/11/2020 16:49

I'm not sure why 'middle aged' is relevant Confused or 'not feeling her age'.... Women the same age as each other aren't a homologous group in terms of taste. For example, I'd hate a pedicure and a beauty voucher would sit in a drawer until it expired.

Letterbox gifts www.letterboxgifts.co.uk/ do beautiful boxes with a variety of gifts for a rang of interests/themes, regardless of age. They'd be worth a look.

This middle-aged lady would be very happy to receive a plant I can grow in the garden or some cool earrings.

Frangipaniflower · 22/11/2020 16:53

I'm 50+ and someone just bought me this eyeshadow palette and I absolutely love it! zoevacosmetics.co.uk/collections/eye-palettes-1/products/cocoa-blend-eyeshadow-palette

On my list this year is a glass trinket/ jewellery box - places like Debenhams have them for around £30. Pretty & useful and not too middle aged!

katy1213 · 22/11/2020 16:54

Don't get six bottles of wine! Get one bottle of lovely wine, especially if she's into food.
I'm still trying to get my head around 40-something ladies who 'don't feel their age'. Surely they should be up for a blue rinse and a perm!

katy1213 · 22/11/2020 17:01

Sorry. just seen the bit about no alcohol. But I stand by quality over quantity; a mini-Diptyque candle rather than a massive Yankee!
I'm another who hates vouchers, especially for experiences that will be enquired about months later - no, it's still in the drawer because the idea of a spa day/footmassage/afternoon tea somewhere I don't want to go fills me with horror. If it comes with expectations of follow-up, it's not a gift, it's a chore.

Squirrelblanket · 22/11/2020 17:04

Another one cringing at 'middle aged'. I'm sure she'd be thrilled to hear herself described as that. 😂

Janaih · 22/11/2020 17:15

Must we have an attack of the vapors every time someone asks for gift ideas for a specific age range? Ffs Hmm

I'm early 40s and happy to be described as middle aged. I would be happy to receive:
Wine, champagne, absolut vodka.
Candle
Pyjamas
Socks
Hoodie
Fitness clothes
Dumbells, kettlebell, resistance bands etc.
Books: crime, historical fiction, domestic noirs etc
Ferrero rochers

Frauhubert · 22/11/2020 17:15

The white company cashmere bed socks? Every woman 30+ loves cashmere, and winter is for bed socks obvs

FippertyGibbett · 22/11/2020 17:17

A nice bottle of Prosecco and a jar of the hibiscus flowers that you put in fizz. You can get them from Lakeland and some garden centres.

FippertyGibbett · 22/11/2020 17:18

Oops sorry about the alcohol, but I’m desperate to try the hibiscus flowers !

Happyoldbat · 22/11/2020 17:22

I wouldn’t buy bedsocks for anyone hurtling towards the menopause. I’d go for the big bottle of fancy gin ( with plenty of ice)

MadCatLady71 · 22/11/2020 17:23

Cashmere accessories - hats, socks, gloves (the stylish fingerless ones).

As a non-drinking middle-aged lady I always like a Tea-Pigs gift set or a bottle of Seedlip as an alternative to alcohol.

I8toys · 22/11/2020 17:24

Middle aged! I'm 48 and would love a drinking goblet so I can pretend I'm on game of thrones.

Happyoldbat · 22/11/2020 17:25

Sorry, missed the bit about the alcohol. Are there any bath products that match her perfume?

Chottie · 22/11/2020 17:27

Luxury hand cream
Fortnum & Mason biscuits in a Christmas tin
Luxury soap or body lotion
Christmas bunch of flowers
