Seafood for Christmas - for the 23rd

We are going to stay at an empty property near the in-laws for Christmas ( staying in own bubble, SD “hello” for Christmas but not going in) .It’s a 3 hour drive away.
It’s miles from anywhere so no shops nearby. Going on the 23rd. I’ve been put in charge of seafood. Prawn cocktail, crab and lobster tails.
Anyone got good ideas for seafood that will be edible for Christmas Day?

Frozen?

Thewinterofdiscontent · 20/11/2020 23:01

Yeah but from where.Recommendations ?

Delivered on the 22nd and defrosted as I drive up or to the place and hope they gave a big enough fridge?

There’s a few seafood options on M&S xmas party food you could order?

AdaColeman · 20/11/2020 23:13

Defrosted on the 23rd but not consumed until the 25th isn't going to work for seafood.
You need a different plan, perhaps tins of lobster bisque or tins of tuna to make tuna pâté or Salade Niçoise?

mrsbyers · 20/11/2020 23:16

Just explain the situation and ask in-laws to source it but offer to pay - pretty simple surely ?

MaverickDanger · 20/11/2020 23:26

Is there an option to get it delivered to the house on the 23rd, or to your in laws and they drop it off?

Not necessarily supermarket slot but a fishmonger etc.

Crunched · 20/11/2020 23:31

Many restaurants are delivering for the festivities.
I have ordered a seafood starter from a fabulous restaurant that delivers nationwide. The food is being delivered on the 23rd but is fine until the 26th apparently.
As long as you are on the mainland they will deliver.

In laws are late 80’s . No help there.

I would order locally but what if it’s rubbish. They know we will be gone a week after, so they probably won’t care.

Can't vouch for their seafood but steaks and sausages are great

MaverickDanger · 20/11/2020 23:45

Not a great way to run a business though if they don’t care what service they provide.

AdaColeman · 20/11/2020 23:48

Checkout The Fish People, you've got time to arrange a delivery from them.

AdaColeman Thanks

Think delivery there is the only way.

You can put in an M&S order and pick it up on a named day from any of their outlets including the motorway services ones. Might be an option for on the way there?

CorvusPurpureus · 21/11/2020 00:20

Hang on, so if you're basically meeting ILs over the fence because SD, how does it matter what seafood you have? Are you having a garden picnic with them, or handing over your lovingly constructed lobster cocktails to them over the fence?

If a) then I'd point out that seafood starters on a cold wintry day in adjoining gardens sounds pretty chilly & miserable. Offer posh fish soup instead (decanted out of tins & tarted up with some floating king prawns, unless you love cooking fishy soup from scratch obviously).

If b) they can order whatever they like, or you can order it for them if it would genuinely help them, before buggering off back to cottage for whatever you fancy for Xmas dinner.
