Big switch v 2 little switches

Hi

Can anyone help? I have two boys (9&8) and am struggling with Christmas presents. They have an x box already but I’m thinking of a switch for Christmas.

As the x box is connected to the telly I imagine the switch would be mostly used handheld so I’m wondering whether it would be better to get them one of the little switches each but I don’t know the first thing about them and whether they’re any good?

Anyone have experience?

The proper switch is much better than the lite - easier to charge and the joy cons are detachable

I think the switch is probably better than the lite as in you have more game play options but I got my 6 year old a lite this summer for his birthday as the main switches were sold out everywhere and he absolutely loves it. They already have a ps4 that is used on the tv so I think the lite is fine.
I have now bought my older son a lite for his birthday next month as he loves it too.

You can play the normal switch as a handheld as well as on the tv, much better in my opinion.

For certain games on the switch you can only have one save per console. So your boys would have to share the games and couldn't have their own separate characters and save files. So it might be worth looking into that before deciding too

It completely depends on what kind of games you want to play.

The switch lite cannot connect to the tv at all, and so is not as good for games that will be played 2 (or more) player, as the screen is small. Hooking up to play multiplayer on local play would require more than one copy of the actual game (so double cost)

The main switch can be either, but is a little big when playing handheld (my 8 year old would prefer a lite for handheld play)

We have both - the main switch is used so much, in both handheld and tv mode, and does just about work for multiplayer in handheld mode too (bigger screen than on the lite). I have a lite which is just mine (so I can still play when my children are monopolising the big switch!), but I have it for games that I play by myself.

They are very different, despite being practically the same thing. The feel is totally different between the 2.

We were so dissapointed with the Switch when we bought it. We bought it mostly for Splatoon 2, given how much they had enjoyed playing Splatoon 1 as multi-player on another console, both kids on the one console with a controller each as split-screen play.

However, even where the switch supports mulitplayer, it only does it with a separate switch per child and a copy of the game per child. If we had known this when we bought it we wouldn't have bothered.

Thanks very much for all your comments - I’ve gone with the big one! Hope they like it. Smile
