Any tips on where to get one for 2 obsessed girls? I have been internetting to no avail.

The irony is that if you already had an alethiometer you could ask it where to look.

How old are they? I was a northern lights - obsessed girl, but think that an alethiometer gift would probably have been a disappointment, it couldn't live up to the real thing.

The BBC need to start selling official replicas don't they. Also, Lyra was able to use an aleithiometer easily as a child in HDM but everyone else needed reference books and got only vague replies after studying for years. So, unless your DDs are the chosen one of course they won't get the alethiometer to work.

OP not what you're after but the comment above about reference sparked a little thought in me - I adore HDM and for my birthday in October DP got me a beautiful HDM encyclopedia from Waterstones. It might be a nice accompaniment if you were after such a thing :)
