To ask you to all buy local this year for Christmas?

I know it's tempting (and often cheaper) to buy everything in the supermarkets and off ebay/amazon but please consider what local business support you can offer this year.

Place a meat order at your local butcher for your turkey, scout out the local market or greengrocer for your veg, buy your sweets and cakes from the local bakery and cards and gifts from as many independent stores as you can they really need us.

The supermarkets have made billions in profit this year and by continuing to shop there we are contributing to the death of local business and the High Street.

So please do what you can as locally as possible 🙂

Don’t assume you can’t use independent shops or that they will be more expensive. Our high street shops are offering home delivery or click / phone / email and collect. And they have created an online Christmas market Facebook group for the smaller indies to display their wares and the larger ones to explain what’s in stock and how to buy from them.

My local toy shop was closed due to the lockdown and it was DD’s birthday, so I messaged their Facebook page indicating what I wanted and they delivered it to my door the same day. Prices comparable with online too. Sometimes you just have to ask.

I've done a mix of everything this year, online, ebay, etsy, amazon, supermarkets, argos and various high Street shops. In my opinion its more important to get the economy running again so will continue to use big companies where I want to.

This article about Amazon is in today’s Guardian: www.theguardian.com/technology/2020/nov/18/how-amazon-became-a-pandemic-giant-and-why-that-could-be-a-threat-to-us-all

I have bought a lot of my stuff for Christmas from smaller and local businesses but even I find your post really annoying. It's not up to you to tell people what to do it's really patronising.

boomboom1234 · 18/11/2020 23:01

Just do what you want and let others make their own choices.

Local Bakery - No it's bloody gross always has been.
Green Grocer - No, way too overpriced compared to one in the next town.

Also you don't get to choose where people shop. Why now are people only caring about small businesses..

I’ve really tried to support small, independent business by buying online from them. I’ve paid the higher prices and postage and it’s been awful. Out of 5 orders, only 1 arrived in a reasonable timeframe (a week) the rest I’ve had to chase and one I still haven’t received. Sorry but I’m going back to amazon.
