To those who have a beautiful lot up/ decorated house from the outside. Still baffled as to how you fix the lights to the House walls? How you get so high up? Please give me tips as determined to make an impact this year!!

Watching as ive also wondered this - particularly when large trees have lights all over them - how?

TheLastStarfighter · 16/11/2020 11:29

I'm also curious! I have some lights to go up in the trees ourside, but so far the best I have managed to figure out is to either just thow them into the trees and hope for the best, or some kind or wierd balancing act with poles and broomsticks.

Here professional come and do it with cherry pickers

Do you know anyone with a cherry picker?

I want to employ someone to do this however (a. I don't really have money to spare for this and b. I don't think anyone in my area does it - I've checked FB and Gumtree) I'm sure Americans do this.

I think I'd need to hire a scissor hand thing to be able to get high enough to hang lights from the roof

To add

A friend on ours who was very fit and outdoorsy died falling of a ladder at home

We dont go up ladders any more

I just do lights around my porch, across the front window and weaved through a hedge down the side. I have cord clips, the hammer in ones around the porch and the rest is wound around whatever is there.

AvoidingRealHumans · 16/11/2020 11:56

I have them across my guttering at the top of the house.
The window cleaner does it, he charges £20 and that includes taking them down in January.

EdwardCullensBiteOnTheSide · 16/11/2020 12:02

I want to do this but would probably go the way National Lampoon went 😂

Lovemusic33 · 16/11/2020 12:13

I have ordered fairly lights to go around the porch/front door. I haven’t worked out how I’m going to put them up yet 😂

Queenofthemadouse · 16/11/2020 12:17

We have small white hooks which we have screwed into the facia board and we hook the lights over these every year. Literally takes 15 mins.

Sunsage · 16/11/2020 12:18

Following!!
I can't seem to find lights with a long enough lead to reach our tree out the front into the plug in the house and then even getting them on the tree without it looking a mess???

Queenofthemadouse · 16/11/2020 12:19

Re the tree lights we don't have any but I'm following for tips!!
You can get those net style lights but I haven't tried them yet.

PrayingandHoping · 16/11/2020 12:21

You can get gutter hooks and stick on hooks (I think the brand is Command?)

helloxhristmas · 16/11/2020 12:22

DH climbs out on to the window sills. Not entirely sure I'd recommend it.

We run cables from our bedroom window and dining room window - the cables on the LED lights are super thin so the windows close and lock as normal.

We have hooks under the fascia board for the ones on the house and they stay up all year.

ParkheadParadise · 16/11/2020 12:23

I've seen the window cleaner advertising to do this in a local FB page.
Last year I bought a laser thing that goes in the ground and projects Santa and Rudolph onto the wall with snowflakes ❄️

Lovemusic33 · 16/11/2020 19:30

I have ordered the stick on hooks from command, they were £6.99 on Amazon.

Stompythedinosaur · 17/11/2020 19:14

Gutter hooks and a ladder.
