In the past we have had a takeaway and will probably do that again this year, probably Indian as DH isn't a big fan of pizza and I find Chinese too salty.

What do you think you will have? 🤔

We usually have a fancier than usual buffet with my sister and nieces as her husband is usually working. I doubt it’ll be able to happen this year though so maybe we’ll get a takeaway.

Inextremis · 16/11/2020 14:34

I do kedgeree every year, with proper undyed smoked haddock. It's a nice contrast to the traditional Christmas food to come, and is easy and quick to make.

Therealjudgejudy · 16/11/2020 14:47

Macaroni cheese this year. Fresh cream sponge cake for afters

merlotormalbec · 16/11/2020 17:55

We always get a Chinese. Was a tradition with my family that I've converted DH to

Finewine76 · 16/11/2020 17:59

@littlera my husbands family have macaroni cheese you're not in nw are you! 😘

timeforanewstart · 16/11/2020 18:28

We either have an indian take away or just party bits

didireallysaythat · 16/11/2020 18:46

I'm not working Christmas Eve so I think we'll do the Xmas meal so that we don't have to faff around with it on Christmas day (ie just eat crisps and peanuts)

SpnBaby1967 · 16/11/2020 19:18

Usually the kids have pizza and then when they're in bed we have a buffet. But I think this year we will do cheese and biscuits or join the kids in pizzas.

TeaOneSugar · 16/11/2020 19:55

We always have a picky tea on Christmas Eve, I deliberately do far too much and we graze on leftovers for a few days. DD looks forward to fridge full party/buffet food more than Christmas lunch.

SuperFairy · 16/11/2020 20:38

Always a fish pie here but reading some of these I now fancy macaroni cheese or a baked Camembert!

And despite being a super fairy I will be having big fat giant portions of food during Christmas 😆

ritzbiscuits · 16/11/2020 21:08

We had Chinese last year and really enjoyed it, so will do the same this year. Have previously done a slow cooked ham with jacket potatoes, cauliflower cheese and red cabbage. Lovely but a bit rich with Christmas dinner the next day.

TheSandgroper · 16/11/2020 21:29

Usually sausages on the bbq eaten on the back veranda.

pinkfluffybunny · 16/11/2020 21:32

Always Chinese take away on the way home from christingle.

Maybe No christingle this year Sad but definitely will still be having our take away.

amusedtodeath1 · 16/11/2020 21:33

Baked Brie with port and cranberry sauce with crusty bread, everyone loves it, it's a bit milder than camembert for those who aren't keen.

ABriefInquiryInToOnlineRelatio · 16/11/2020 21:34

M&S buffet as usual. We're boring! But we love it! Set it up at 5pm, PJ's on, films on, and a jolly good evening is had by all!

AdoraBell · 16/11/2020 21:37

Never had a takeaway for Christmas Eve. I’m seriously tempted to have Chinese food.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 16/11/2020 21:42

Doing a curry and sides as usually have a takeaway to save cooking but not doing that in current times. Then movie night with fresh made popcorn and hot chocolate.

NullcovoidNovember · 16/11/2020 21:48

Oh some really lovely ideas here!
I've really enjoyed buying m and s dim sum style stuff recently but.. Last year I did a ham with a home made glaze on Xmas eve and my god.. The house has never smelt so sensational. I hope I can remember the glaze! Something with honey and cloves and cider vinegar?

I think that and maybe home made sausage rolls..

AdoraBell · 16/11/2020 21:50

Ooh, do you mind saying where you are TheSandGroper? We used to live in Chile and I really miss the BBQ Christmas lunches with lots of salad.

UndertheCedartree · 16/11/2020 22:16

We always have soup and bread with cheese. Easy to prepare and clean up and nice as having a big meal the next day.

SingleHandSue · 16/11/2020 22:22

In recent years we have gone to our local for tea. I’m usually working Xmas eve until 5/5:30 so go straight there from work but this year I’m off - hooray! - so we might go a bit earlier (if we’re able to at all of course)

Sometimes MIL, FIL, SIL her DH and DC and DS1’s GF join us but not always.

loutypips · 16/11/2020 22:25

Chinese takeaway! Every year!

susandelgado · 16/11/2020 22:27

I buy a huge gammon from my local farm shop. We have that with salad and chutneys, home made crusty bread and various cheeses. Then a decent shop bought dessert Smile

VillageFete · 16/11/2020 22:43

At around 3pm we always book a table at our local and have picky bits, such as baked camembert with caramelised onion chutney and crusty buttered bread, chicken goujons, crispy mushrooms etc...

Later on in the evening it’s more picky bits, such as M&S party food, cheese, crackers and chutneys, chocolate fudge yule log with fresh cream, Champagne flowing....

We tend to just graze all day on Christmas Eve.

Breakfast is usually coffee, bucks fizz, pastries, Belgian waffles with nutella and biscoff spread, fruit, maple syrup and some crispy bacon butties.

We’re clearly incredibly greedy Confused

Ltdannygreen · 16/11/2020 22:57

Half of us have chinese the other half indian.... been doing it years, not gonna change now.
