In the past we have had a takeaway and will probably do that again this year, probably Indian as DH isn't a big fan of pizza and I find Chinese too salty.

What do you think you will have? 🤔

Mmmm I fancy baked Camembert now. And all the cheeses.

ktp100 · 16/11/2020 00:50

I like a few glasses of champers and something light but a treat like nacho bowls, shop-bought canapes or cheese & crackers etc.

This year we're having mackerel pate & toast, I think.

And Quality Streets, obvs!!

Kintsugi16 · 16/11/2020 00:51

Falafel, humous, shiracha mayo and salad in pitta

It's long been a tradition to have a carpet picnic. It started one year when I was surrounded by presents, paper & tape & DP (as was) got too hungry to wait fir the nice dinner we'd planned to cook, so he raided the fridge & made a carpet picnic, it's been tradition every year. But it's morphed to a coffee table picnic now as my knees are fucked 🙄

I'll be on my own this year, so it'll probably morph a bit more as I'm a diet controlled diabetic now, so I'll probably have canambert, celery, carrots,& wine & save my Carby indulgences for Christmas Day! If I wasn't it would include bread & chocolate for sure...and Baileys!!

@HollyandIvyandallthingsYule

Oh yes...always bung on some cranberry sauce.

I'm ordering my cheese from Wensleydale Creamery this year as I missed out on my holiday to Yorkshire thanks to bastard Covid!

@Kintsugi16

Never mind Christmas Eve. Why are you having a dainty Christmas dinner?
I just don't eat a lot. Plus gotta save room for pudding probably apple pie and custard. 😋

The best way to bake camambert is to slit marks in the top and poke in sliced garlic, thyme and rosemay sprigs. And then chuck a good splash of kirsch over it before it goes into the oven. Smile

Normally hotdogs and mince pies as we do children Christmas service and this is what the Church serve afterwards. It was great as afterwards we could get the kids home and into bed. It's already been confirmed the big service will be cancelled (maybe online with a big of luck) so will probably do something easy like pizza.

I love reading the stuff like this, especially the traditions that happened by accident.

We will be having the traditional Xmas eve Iceland mix! Started when we were skint one year and just stuck. Consists of duck spring rolls with hoisin sauce, chicken stays, loaded potato skins etc, followed by a cheese board and chutney

Snaileyes · 16/11/2020 06:22

I’m clinging on to hope that our favourite restaurant will be open! Tables already booked Grin

userxx · 16/11/2020 06:24

Christmas Dinner will be a dainty portion too.

Eh? Like a little fairy portion?

ShoppingBasket · 16/11/2020 06:27

Antipasti style tea, have done it the last few years and we have it in the living room with the tree lit. Just kind of happened one year and now has become a tradition.

Friendsoftheearth · 16/11/2020 06:40

We usually have a house full for drinks on Christmas Eve, and I organise hot canapes etc - something like and delicious.

This year that won't be happening - vaccine or no vaccine on the horizon.

So we have booked to go out for dinner - just us and the children - very much looking forward to have a 'year off' and time to relax this year actually and let someone else take the strain :)

Emmacb82 · 16/11/2020 06:55

We always have a Christmas Eve buffet. Hopefully we will be with my parents, if not we will have it at home.

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 16/11/2020 06:59

I'm planning a Christmas themed running buffet as I will have a very excited ds who probably wont sit still long enough to eat a meal and probably a few people stopping by a different times throughout the day , lockdown permitting!

joystir59 · 16/11/2020 07:02

No plans. Will probably be on my own.

maddiemookins16mum · 16/11/2020 07:12

Either a Chinese or steak and dolphin nose potatoes (we call them that ☺️).

userxx · 16/11/2020 07:13

@maddiemookins16mum 🤣🤣

userxx · 16/11/2020 07:14

No plans. Will probably be on my own.

No compromising then, you can have whatever you want.

bjjgirl · 16/11/2020 07:14

My kids will be at their dads until 11am on Xmas day and with me for Xmas day and night then back to our rota (this is the first time I've not worked Xmas day so been able to have them) so Xmas eve will be so different this year. I was thinking a home made curry after a long bike ride

EasilyDepleted · 16/11/2020 07:21

Party nibbles from M&S, easy / minimal washing up. We like to stay in.

pourmeanotherglass · 16/11/2020 07:25

Not sure, we normally eat out but probably wont this year.

GhostTypeEevee · 16/11/2020 07:47

We are planning to go retro and have a fondue

XiCi · 16/11/2020 07:48

Christmas Dinner will be a dainty portion too.
