Which laptop for a 10 year old?

DD wants a laptop for Christmas - she'll be starting high school next September so it will be for school work, Minecraft and roblox!

I'm getting over whelmed with choice - can anyone post links to recommendations? Budget around £300-350, tempted to wait for Black Friday

I got a chrome book. Not strictly a laptop but does everything my 14 year old needs.

I wouldn’t get a laptop, a tablet/iPad or chrome book would be better. I have bought dd laptops in the past and even with paying the extra for anti virus she has managed to pick things up after a few days either making the laptop run super slow or not at all. I have ordered her a ipad for Christmas ,I already have one as does her sister, have had mine for 5+ years and it’s still as good as new. Dd can do homework on it, play games and watch YouTube without picking up anything nasty.

Focalpoint - which one did you get? I'm thinking of getting one for OH who has zero interest in technology but likes to do a bit of word-processing and internet browsing.

I got my daughter a gaming laptop as the other office ones won't play roblox, sims 4 or minecraft and she moaned about the 'lag'. She said roblox is not the same on ipad, phone etc as cant build. Hopefully it will last a few years!

Oh and chromebooks don't support the roblox app so I found out🙄

I just got one for my ds13. His friends Dad is a techie and said you need at least 8mb ram to prevent lag and 512 GH storage. That's costs around £500 although I found an grade A Acer one on currys clearance site on eBay for £439. It seems great. He plays some games on it and says it's quick enough.

WaltzForDebbie · 15/11/2020 14:45

That should be 500gb. Laptops direct is also supposed to be good. If she is happy with less than a 15 inch may be cheaper. If you also went for i3 processor rather than i5 it's a bit cheaper.

Roblox now works on Chromebooks (this is pretty recent).
I highly recommend them - everyone in our household has one.

Are the cheaper £180 chrome books fine for roblox and schoolwork inc zoom?
