Bit disappointed this year tbh. McDonald’s is my favourite - hits home as I have a tween myself and I love the TK Maxx one....

Yep it was OK but nothing that special, Mcdonalds is my fave so far.

PinkJam · 13/11/2020 13:09

Really boring. Just doesn’t seem to have much life to it.

Autumncolourlover · 13/11/2020 14:12

It's dull and that song hurts my ears. Last year's still makes me smile and ds has the Edgar PJs.

junglepie · 13/11/2020 14:40

Oh, I really like it! Haven't liked them much for the last couple of years, but love this years.

user1493494961 · 13/11/2020 18:12

Very poor.

missbipolar · 13/11/2020 18:13

I like the idea behind it but it was shit

reginaphalangeeee · 13/11/2020 18:18

I didn't really mind it too much! Last year was better but this one was fine.

Neversleepingever · 13/11/2020 18:23

Your'll never beat that one where the boy wants time to go quick and you spend the whole advert thinking it's so he can have his presents but actually it's because at the end he want to give his mum and dad a gift. 😢

That song 'so please please please let meee get what I want...'

happylittlechick · 13/11/2020 18:34

I liked it really simple and sweet. But not the best offering this year. I'm just so please there's no zoom calls to granny.
I still love last years Sainsbury's one about the origin of Father Christmas. So underrated.

Lipz · 13/11/2020 18:54

I normally love JL ads, wasn't impressed tbh. Mc Donald's is very very good, so true.. Coca Cola is a teary one with the dad and Santa letter. We've one here in Ireland for supervalu, that's a real tear jerker.

maxineputyourredshoeson · 13/11/2020 20:14

I’ve just seen the Disney one, that put a lump in my throat. My favourite JL is the same as @Neversleepingever I absolutely loved that advert.

I must admit, probably not a popular opinion but, I’m so over the Aldi ones with Kevin the carrot but the hedgehog is cute this year. I can’t stand the man in the Asda advert, he really gets my heckles up for some reason.

I think it’s just Sainsburys to go now....

Haven't seen this years but am a bit meh about JL ads. They are a very recent thing and I don't get why they have been so hyped as if they are a long standing Christmas tradition.

Although it may be that they are not that recent and I am just getting very old (and grinch-like!).

SparklingDinosaurs · 13/11/2020 21:31

I felt that the John Lewis ad should have been amazing. I loved the concept and it wasn’t overly sentimental so good for this year. However I just found it quite dull. I don’t think the music helped either.

I agree with the PP that I’m over Kevin the carrot now. I quite likes the first release with the top gun theme but then it seemed to go quite downhill with the hedgehog. As a side note did anyone see Aldi posting to JL that they liked their ad and putting pic of their hedgehog and JL’s hedgehog side by side - I love how aldi does stuff like that on social media Grin

My biggest surprise was MacDonald ad. I’ve never even registered them before but watched link for this years and I was in tears at the end. I LOVED it. Obviously I find it relatable having young son myself so that’s added to the emotion for me. It was spot on.

VenusOfWillendorf · 14/11/2020 07:53

I liked the JL advert, thought it quite sweet. The Irish Times does a good review of it

My favorite this year has been the SuperValu one.

FilthyforFirth · 14/11/2020 08:45

Another one disappointed (my fave JL is alao the one mentioned up thread) I feel like this wasnt the year to change the format, we all need a bit of stability and continuity!

Also feeling a bit meh about Kevin the carrot. Not sure how much life there is left in that one.

Disney is outstanding. Not seen McDonalds so off for a google now. Love the Supervalu one, absolutely brilliant.

Directionerforever · 14/11/2020 08:54

I bawled my eyes out at the McDonalds one, but then I have a 10 year old boy so I’m the target market. I thought JL was a bit meh, the style of it was quite clever but I’d rather have had a song I knew. The song adds to the McD one as I love it. (Always reminds me of The OC ad it was Ryan and Marissa’s song 😭)

HmmSureJan · 14/11/2020 08:55

McDonald's is way better.

Thesearmsofmine · 14/11/2020 09:03

Aww that SuperValu ad just had me in tears, so lovely.

My favourite so far is the McDonald’s advert, I have a 10 year old ds so rings very true to me.

Sabrina124 · 14/11/2020 09:03

I think John Lewis ads peaked years ago with the penguin one.

ginberry4 · 14/11/2020 09:04

I love the McDonalds one too but also have a 10yo DS so can really relate, agree the song really fits the message. I thought the Disney one was beautiful too, brought a tear to my eye. As did the Coca Cola one!

Wasn’t so struck on the JL one this year, the underlying message is great but didn’t find the visuals/music so appealing.

maxineputyourredshoeson · 14/11/2020 17:05

Here’s the first one from Sainsburys, again not really feeling it tbh. Maybe parts 2 and 3 will be better.

I’ve just had to come out of lurker-status to respond to this. The Disney one has had so much love from the Filipino community all over the world who have been thrilled to see their culture represented. The comments on the FB post of the ad and YouTube are really touching to read.

This is my favourite, but I also like the Bear and the Hare, and, unpopular opinion, the Elton John one from 2018 - just because I have a little boy who was around the same age as the youngest little Elton in the advert at the time, and so it hit a chord. The Bear and the Hare came out the year my brother died, and for some reason made me think of him...
PearlclutchersInc · 14/11/2020 18:42

John Lewis Christmas ads, loathe them all, drippy, wet things.

Kevin currently is the best Grin

MrsKingfisher · 14/11/2020 18:47

What is wrong with JL? What's the matter with a lovely traditional Christmas advert, why must they always try to impart a message of how to behave (whilst selling their stuff) most of us know how to be kind, most of us know how to give a little love most of us are decent human beings that really don't need this shit pushed down our necks year after year.

The Coca-Cola truck holidays are coming signals Christmas to me, a nice jingle, Santa and you know they're selling drinks no hidden message. Kevin the carrot is also quite fun.
