9 year old big present for a boy ?

I'm out of ideas this year but sure there's something obvious. His birthday is right before Christmas so he's got double whammy - he's having a scooter for birthday but I'm out of ideas for Christmas. £100 approx - so much less than some spend but also enough for him I think.
What are your boys getting?

Oh, we have the same problem (with a nearly 8 year old). Grandparents are buying a scooter and mine craft Lego. On my husbands insistence, he’s getting a joint Xmas/bday gift of some sort of gaming thing. Keen on getting some better ideas.

Pogo stick (less than your budget but still “big”)
Roller skates (ditto)

IggyAce · 11/11/2020 18:30

My ds 9 is getting the Lego Ninjago land bounty and a skateboard with fully safety kit.

polkadotpjs · 11/11/2020 18:52

Parents are getting him a pogo stick. Or I'd have been all it - sadly I asked grandma and she was keen for me to buy it on her behalf. I miffed up there!

Telescope, Guitar, Drum kit, camera.

MrsHookey · 11/11/2020 18:56

Nintendo switch lite? Tv? Gaming console? Bike? Go kart?

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 11/11/2020 18:56

We've got our 9yo her own hiking tent. She's into expedition camping though.

Shes getting Lego from her grandparents.

Sausagis · 11/11/2020 19:00

Probably an instant photo printer - hp sprocket or similar

polkadotpjs · 11/11/2020 19:04

Ooh now camera is a good shout. He's got drum kit and not interested in guitars

Lego Super Mario
Gravitrax starter set XXL
Knex Thrill Rides 3 in 1
Snap circuits

TankGirl97 · 11/11/2020 19:09

We have the same issue, birthdays right before Christmas.
So far I've got a big snap circuits set, pogo stick, books (Ickabog and others), circus skills stuff.

WellTidy · 11/11/2020 19:09

Forza goal and a forza size 4 football. Any cash left over, maybe some pyjamas or stationery branded in the team he supports

MaryBoBary · 11/11/2020 19:12

Super Mario Lego, you build the set and then have a little electronic Mario to take round and earn coins

EwDavid · 11/11/2020 19:14

Gaming chair? Go pro for when he's using his scooter?

Viv0321 · 11/11/2020 19:23

Anyone had a action cam that’s not go pro?

Barms155 · 11/11/2020 19:29

Im getting my 9 year old a hover board with a go kart attachment...didn't even know this was a thing.

Mammaaof · 11/11/2020 19:30

Mario kart live!! X

polkadotpjs · 11/11/2020 19:35

Oh my word you lot are fab. Go pro would be fabulous , or a camera
Any recommendations? Having an older brother they also have a lot of shared stuff so footie goals etc we already have but I think a camera or go pro could be a brilliant companion gift !

We have a similar problem with our son (but he’s turning 8). Some of the bigger ticket or ‘big looking’ gifts he is getting from us/ grandparents are:
Lego Creeper Mine
Soft archery set (reasonably priced but big)
Keyboard
Decent binoculars

We have also looked at Kiwi Crate subscriptions. They look great, as do the older versions, and we may order if his main birthday present (Harry Potter Studio tour) gets cancelled/ postponed.

OneMoreForExtra · 11/11/2020 19:38

Hoverboard was a big hit last year (9) . 10th birthday featured an Alexa Echo Show, which he loves and can see and talk to his friends on.

Fennelandlovage · 11/11/2020 19:39

Bought my girl a set of mini drawers and filled with interesting stones and fossils - got a couple of books about them too. She loves it. She is quite sciencey and we have also bought her big kits of Knex - bridges and fun fair with motor. Also science kits quite fun at this age. Maybe not be for everyone but went down well here.

Fennelandlovage · 11/11/2020 19:41

Someone posted a fantastic list of cool toys and games recently and I bought a few things from that - can’t refund now though. Maybe someone else remembers.
