DD would like a hoverboard for Christmas - any recommendations?

DD (9) has decided she’d like a hover board thing for Christmas, after seeing a friend on one after school.
I’m a bit clueless about them, but having had a quick look on Amazon, they all seem very expensive! It seems Approx £149 average for the ones with flashing lights, play music etc
Are they worth it??
If your DC has one, do they use it much / any you can recommend? And where did you buy it from?

We bought Ds8 a Nero one no music on though it lights up. He loves going around house on it & used it outside a few times only. Check out Amazon reviews it was around £200 with go cart attachment. I definitely wouldn't recommend the go kart as it was very difficult to control Hth

My twins got one each for their birthday. Used for 3 days. Son fell off and snapped both bones in his arm! A week in hospital, metal pins in arm and 2 months in a cast and neither of them have touched them since!
£300 down the drain!!

My children both have one (11 and 7) and enjoy them. They can connect Bluetooth to music off a phone which they particularly enjoyed in the summer months in the garden. They used them in the house as well as the garden, park and prom. I’d say they get their money’s worth for sure and it can be quite good exercise as it works the core despite being motorised for actually moving if that makes sense. I wouldn’t recommend the site I bought mine from as they took ages to arrive (hoverboards.co.uk)

I’ve bought them for my 2 boys (10 & 8) ones with the go kart attachment I think they’ll love them!

After a fair bit of research i bought from voltes they’re super quick on chat if you’ve any questions and the boards arrived within a week. They’ve gone to my mums house so I won’t actually see them until tomorrow. If you end up ordering from them ask them to make sure and put a UK plug on the charger.

Just be warned - it is very easy to fall off. A broken wrist for DD here after 1 go on a friend's board.

I know several families who bought these for children last Christmas and had arms in plaster by new year

DD got one last Christmas just before she turned 9. She's played on it quite a bit - but mainly because we live in a cul-de-sac and a friend 2 doors away also has one.

Thank you so much @Carrie76 for the recommendation of that website - the prices and quality look much better than elsewhere. I have ended up going for the all terrain one with kart attachment!

Yes, they are illegal to use either on public roads or pavements. So the cul-de-sac users were lucky. A bit like electric scooters. They come under "motor vehicles" as they are powered.

I would only get one if you have a garden/house they can be used in.

Oh bloody hell. I wish I'd seen this before I bought dd2's one. She was desperate after her best friend got one for her birthday last month so I've got her one. We've already had a trampoline broken leg, I don't want any more incidents.

Despite all the people
Saying they’re illegal- I’m pretty sure no one has ever been asked by the police to stop riding a hover board. Not when being used in a park or similar leisure area.
Also despite all the horror stories about broken bones etc I don’t think they’re as dangerous as people like to make out. They’re good fun!
