I love reading these threads on present ideas, and I'm a bit stumped for my Mum. Hoping the hive mind can help.

Budget is around £30-40. Lives in a flat, no garden. She has quite stylish, austere tastes, reads a lot but mostly on kindle. Loves plants like orchids but already has several.. Likes meaningful things like good quality art/craft by grandchildren. Hates clutter and things that are for the house or housework. Likes art, music and culture. Enjoys a drink but I wouldn't know what's fashionable or considered a good quality gift in that respect. Quite likes fancy hand creams etc. She likes brands that are on trend and fashionable but not flashy.

Thanks for any ideas

Aesop soap and hand cream

Ningnang2000 · 11/11/2020 04:41

Longbarn5 · 11/11/2020 05:01

Indoor fruit tree/plant, ie, lemon tree from PlantsforGifts or similar

Pumpkint · 11/11/2020 05:05

How old is your mum, I'm usually very good a thinking of gifts

pergnet · 11/11/2020 08:22

Thanks for the great suggestions so far!

@Pumpkint she's early 70s but not at all frail or 'elderly'.

I'm doing dm a stocking with lots of little luxuries.

My mum is similar and likes Rituals smellies, if you look on the Christmas bargains (thread 18) there are some good deals on QVC on Neom candles and Elemis cosmetics sets.
Other random ideas - sheepskin slippers, turtle dove cashmere fingerless gloves, a nice gin (Harris gin, Silent Pool, the new M&S Xmas one).

Does she like audio books? You can get a subscription to them, if she needs it. Magazine subscription is a great idea, too! I also thought about handmade soap or candles, you can do them on your own (here is a guide on soap and this one is on candles). Or you can get her a soap or candle making kits if she is crafty and could be into that, Amazon has something like that- www.amazon.com/Premium-Melt-Pour-Butter-Making/dp/B07KVMNW9T?tag=mumsnetforu03-21 Plus it's not about housework. If she likes arts and crafts made my children, you can get her a photo calendar with family photos (here is a tutorial on how to make your own calendars) or a birthday collage with grandchildren's drawings (this is a picture collage guide).
You say she has plants, so maybe check out some things that are necessary to take proper care of orchids? Or a couple of new pots if she plans to repot them.

Does she cook? WIndowsill herbs might suit.

Tickets the the theatre if we ever get back to that.

A set of flavoured gins?

Portrait of her with the grandchildren? OK a painted one would be way over budget but a photo with a local photographer would be within budget.

My mums most wanted list is topped by her yearly photo calendar with pictures of all family members, including my late grandparents on the months of their birthdays and wedding anniversaries, main theme being my DS, the apple of her eye.
She likes her home comforts so also got her a new hot water bottle, this works sleep spray, a granny key ring (my dad is getting the matching equivalent and they have a personalised grandparents photo album as a a joint gift too)
A few threads have mentioned Turtle Doves wrist warmers so think that might be a nice treat too 🤔

I’d get her a set of solid hand cream bars from the Edinburgh Natural Skincare Company. They look gorgeous, are small so they won’t get in the way and will be used up with time so won’t add clutter to her home.

A magazine subscription.

I think if you love orchids you always appreciate another one!

Harris Gin and add some fevertree tonic
The gin is amazing- the bottle is a work or art

WillSantaBeComingToTown · 11/11/2020 14:45

You can get lots of magazines for free if you are a member of the local library on your kindle- so probably not worth buying a subscription.

freezedriedromance · 11/11/2020 14:46

Something from Neom? They're quite luxury and apparently on trend at the minute. Or the White Company is usually a hit too.

AdaColeman · 11/11/2020 15:06

A bottle of Tanqueray Flor de Sevilla Gin, a delicious floral gin with a hint of orange, like drinking sunshine! It's about £25 a bottle, so you could also get a box of Prestat truffles at around £15 and still be within budget.
A more foody idea would be a bottle of truffle oil, a small brie with truffles and a jar of truffle mayonnaise.

HollyandIvyandallthingsYule · 11/11/2020 15:22

I like Opihr gin at Christmas time.
