Ideas for young adult men?

Difficult age I think unless they have particular hobbies - I'm thinking over 18s to early twenties.

I'm thinking DSs are going to end up with mainly alcohol and snacks.

Any good ideas?

Cold hard cash usually goes down well 😉

WaxOnFeckOff · 03/11/2020 19:09

Ah if only...mine don't spend it and like stuff to open but make no suggestions.

So far for mine, I've got a nice wallet ( requested), books, Le Crueset mug, band t-shirts,. Might get new wireless headphones for DS3. I find it really hard when they earn their own money, so don't actually need anything. I used to get art and music supplies, but it's all online. I might get some decent glasses ( whisky tumbler). Board games still make them happy, and if mine played chess or backgammon maybe a leather set would work.

Some lovely ideas. My two are students so don't have their own earnings at the moment but been spoiled and now don't really need anything which I guess is the issue :)

I have a gaming mouse for one of them and some PJs put away from when they were on a sale but that's pretty much it so far.

DS1 likes a nice gin so I can get that, DS2 doesn't really drink spirits and there is only so many bottles of cider that it's appropriate to get.

If they're students, have they got mics on headphones already?my students are often with headphones but can't talk back in lectures. (We've bought ours headphones with mics to give away)

jocktamsonsbairn · 04/11/2020 07:55

I've bought my Ds a mini fridge for his room. Also got:
Pop art figure
Canvas of the child from mandalorian that he wanted
Posh dressing gown
Pjs
Pot noodles
Beer
Vodka mini (grey goose)
Games (Fake News and he has asked for monopoly)
The baked in cake in a mug pack that was on bargain threads
Wallet ninja
Lots of silly stocking figure things from menkind etc
Big jar of Percy Pigs.
Designer pants and socks.

It's so hard at this age! Like the sound of the escape room game!

Mine are having Oodies. Really good for gamers apparently.

Herja · 04/11/2020 09:52

The one I need to buy for is a non drinker, healthy eater, who doesn't socialise. Over the last 5 years, I have bought EVERYTHING for his main hobby (cooking). His other interest is geeky tech stuff, but he is clear that he has incredibly expensive, exacting requirements, so tells people not to try that, because it will be wrong...

He's now also got depression following redundancy and a year staying in to look after a shielding relative. I want to get him as proper present (he's my lovely little brother), but I don't have a fucking clue! I'm leaning towards cold hard cash (handy due to redundancy), but it feels cold and I so want him to know how loved he is at the moment.

WaxOnFeckOff · 04/11/2020 11:16

some great ideas, lots my DC already have but very useful for anyone else looking in.

@Herja, what about a nice weighted blanket? Might help in lots of ways and would be like sending a hug?

OP posts:
Herja · 04/11/2020 11:20

I really like that actually! He spends an awful lot of time inside doing things I don't understand with computers. It would be good for that and, as you say, sort of a gift wrapped hug too.

WaxOnFeckOff · 04/11/2020 11:37

Tech but non tech gifts would be things like a decent mouse mat, headphone stand, backlights for his screen, desk fan?

Decent wireless headphones. My OH (33) got Marshall headphones a few years ago. Uses them pretty much every day, particularly when he wants to watch something on his phone whilst I'm watching something he can't stand on tv or he likes listening to music before bed.

bakereld · 04/11/2020 12:54

Do they like PC gaming? How about a Steam gift card.

General tech bits - good branded gaming mouse mat, headphones, gaming chair?, Led screen backlights
General food bits - depends what they like, but snacks bits always work well.
Hat, gloves,
New wallet,
New mugs etc
PS5 game if they are ordering a new PS5 when it comes out. Playstation gift card etc.

caringcarer · 04/11/2020 13:00

I give my 2 adult sons £200 each and a small Stocking with
Star Wars air fresheners for cars
Socks
Pants
Car cleaning stuff
Selection box
Chocolate orange
Shower gel, shampoo, conditioner in washbag
T shirt
Lego key ring
A few more bits o might find

caringcarer · 04/11/2020 13:05

One of my sons will put cash towards a new X box series X the other towards an upgraded graphics card for his computer. I bought one son a half size fridge for his December birthday last year. He uses it to keep his cans and chocolate in.

Ismellphantoms · 04/11/2020 13:09

I've got Alexa for one as he's away at uni. I'm stuck on the other as he's in the military and I don't know what he's allowed.

OhMsBeliever · 04/11/2020 13:18

I'm getting my 21 yo t-shirt/hoodies of his favourite tv shows/games/bands. They always go down well.

Also an Oodie, or a cheaper version of one.

He's asked for a couple of books as well - he's into graphic novels.

Always get chocolate orange, chocolate coins, a selection box etc. And socks!

78percentLindt · 04/11/2020 17:07

Metal straws
New electric toothbrush,
cycling stuff(one got into cycling in lockdown and is upgrading gloves, waterproof gear, bike cleaning kit).
Local Deli is grinding coffee beans of DS2 favourite coffee blend and vacuum packing it in 50g aliquots for his stocking
If DC likes decent coffee an Aeropress is good. DS2 had one for Uni
Chocolate on stick to make hot chocolate.
Walking socks
