What bag to buy for teenage DD

My DD has asked for a tote bag that she can use for school as a gift. She's always used rucksacks in the past, and as I've not been shopping in real life I'm unsure what will be big enough to fit all her things in. I would also prefer it if it had a zip across the top to stop her from spilling everything out, which she invariably will.

Can anyone please point me in the right direction or show me what your DD's have that's similar. Thank you

Just to put a Downer on it a tote bag is a really bad idea. They lug so much stuff about she needs a backpack.

All the kids here use backpacks.

Could you convince her to get a nice bag for the weekend instead?

You haven't put a downer on it, thank you for your comment. I would prefer her to have a backpack too, but she's at that age where she wants to be the same as her friends and due to Covid doesn't see them out of school.

I have absolutely got to agree. If DD wants to do something stupid she can do it with her own pocket money in the full knowledge that she does so without my support.

No way would I be buying something for my child that does them harm

Kanken - no question!

I would definitely recommend a rucksack however that being said, it was that long ago that i left high school so i know what young girls are like. For the sake of £10-40 (especially being a gift) - i would allow it. Anything to make their life a little easier right.

My DD (15) has this from Urban Outfitters. There are a number of different colours and also another design with longer straps and more pockets

My daughter has used a tote bag since Year 7 - she's Year 10 now, she doesn't struggle with it at all. The one she has from now she got from New Look last year for her birthday, think it was about £20. Hardly any girls at all seem to have backpacks, it's all bags.
