Dd1 likes the pokemon games, animal crossing and mario cart, she doesn’t really play anything else.

MrJinxyCat · 28/10/2020 14:48

Splatoon 2 definitely, favourite in our house.
Minecraft
Mario Odossy
Mario Party
Luigi’s Mansion
Animal Crossing

MrJinxyCat · 28/10/2020 14:49

Forgot Mario Kart, very popular too.

Snugglesandsmiles25 · 28/10/2020 14:52

Erm our most played games by DD7

Mario kart
Animal crossing
Minecraft

She then does like
Spyro and crash.

This is a real "how long is a piece of string" kind of question. Who are you buying for?

Mario Odyssey and Mario Kart would be popular with all ages. Then you have things like Witcher, Breath of the Wild, Animal Crossing, Black Flag, Luigi's Mansion, Fire Emblem, Mario and Rabbids, Edith Finch etc which won't have as much universal appeal. Great games though.

WhoseThatGirl · 28/10/2020 16:19

Ring fit is very popular in my house and it’s great for getting them to have some exercise if you are isolating.

ritzbiscuits · 28/10/2020 17:21

What age is it for? Do they like any particulate characters like Mario or Pokemon?

Fatted · 28/10/2020 17:23

How old?

For my two, it's minecraft, Super Mario Bros, Smash Bros and Animal crossing. I am also partial to animal crossing 😆

bakereld · 28/10/2020 17:26

Who are you buying for and how old are they?

Standard games are:
Mario Kart
Spyro
Super smash bros
Pokemon Sword/Pokemon Shield

Other than that, other popular but less general games are:
Zelda breath of the wild
Minecraft
Fire emblem

PaulineScrambledPhones · 28/10/2020 17:48

Animal Crossing and Mario Kart

Starlightstarbright1 · 28/10/2020 17:52

Depends what age you are buying for.

We have adventures fut and boxfut.

My ds (13) wants animal crossing for Christmas

BrokenBrit · 28/10/2020 17:59

I'm not a gamer but as a parent I think an open ended game is a must, so Minecraft, Animal Crossing, Super Mario Maker, Mario Kart.

I also think at least one top rated (or expensive) game, the graphics on cheaper games aren't always that impressive. Zelda and Mario etc are just amazing to look at on the big screen and when you pay so much for a console it's a must.

For mine a Pokemon game is a must, and they will complete it over and over, but depends what your kids are into.

Viv0321 · 28/10/2020 23:46

thanks all. It’s for DS age 8

TheVanguardSix · 28/10/2020 23:47

Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild (this is a MUST!)

ritzbiscuits · 29/10/2020 08:23

@Viv0321 for an 8 year old I'd look at Mario Odyssey, it's an amazing game and widely regarded as one of the best on the Switch.

My 7 yo DS has also really enjoyed Mario Maker (as he enjoys the 'build your own level' element) and Animal Crossing, again enjoying the 'design your own island' concept. You'll know if that's the type of game to interest him.

For us, Mario Kart is good but not a must have, we don't get much time to play as a family TBH.

Zelda suggested above is a 12 certificate, but I don't think it's unsuitable for an 8 yo. My 7 yo has started it recently but I would say it's quite hard. He can play it as he's learnt a lot from Mario Odyssey, Pokemon S&S, Animal Crossing. So maybe one for down the line.

Iseeyoulookingatme · 29/10/2020 08:38

Currently loved by ds are:

Minecraft
Mario oddessy
Splatoon
Mario cart
Super Mario bros
Luigos mansion 3

I've got ds sonic and minecraft dungeons for Christmas to add to the collection

Embolio · 29/10/2020 08:43

My DC's are 8,9 and 4 and favourites are: mario odyssey, minecraft, super smash bros, mario party, kirby star allies, splatoon 2.
Older one loves Zelda breath of the wild, links awakening and fortnite. Little one loves kirby and mario kart. They enjoy the multiplayer games when friends are round (pre lockdown).

Will prob get animal crossing at Christmas for me dd.

Viv0321 · 29/10/2020 12:17

Thanks everyone will take a look. Would anyone suggest second hand or best to buy new?

OP posts:
TaffyandTeenyTaffy · 29/10/2020 12:28

Lots of good suggestions (off to google Animal Crossing!) -
For family games night we also like Monopoly and Just Dance.

SionnachRua · 29/10/2020 14:30

The problem with Animal Crossing is that you can only have one island per Switch and only one player can be the Resident Representative (main player who advances the story). Other players can join too but they won't have as much control over the island as the first player - though they can still kick off characters who are resident on the island. If you have a couple of kids sharing the Switch I could see that causing fights.

Nintendo brand games tend to hold their value so idk if you'd get great deals buying second hand. No harm in it if you did buy 2nd hand.

I looked in cex it was the same price second hand as new so went for a new one.
user626847 · 30/10/2020 00:45

Second hand is fine if you can find any but I find they tend to go for only a few pounds less at best. Often better deals can be had. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong places.

UndertheCedartree · 30/10/2020 00:49

Pokemon and Animal Crossing are played the most here.
