Stocking ideas for DPs / DHs

I couldn’t see a thread on this, so thought I’d start one! DH and I do a stocking for each other and I’m totally out of ideas for him this year.

Stocking gifts from previous years that have gone down well include:
Wireless earphones
Wallet buddy
Meat thermometer
Glasses repair kit
Hand cream
Nose hair trimmer
Luggage scale
Photo magnets
Smart plugs / light bulbs
And always a nice pair of socks!

So far this year, I’ve got...chutney. Grin

What have you bought that’s stocking sized that’s gone down well for DPs / DHs in the past?

@AnnPerkins that’s brilliant.

lexloofah · 27/10/2020 20:34

Another one bites the dust glasses or screen cleaning cloth

Pit Magazine the sausage edition!

CompleteBarstool · 27/10/2020 22:08

I just bought these tiny little cactus fridge magnets as a stocking filler for DD...£1.06 for the ones in white pots, about £1 more for the ones in orange pots.

Reviews say they're tiny but cute, with a strong magnet. They popped up as a suggested purchase so thought it was worth a punt for just over a pound.

Oops wrong thread ....it was meant for the Christmas Bargains one!!

dolphinpose · 27/10/2020 22:14

These have all gone down well in DH's stocking:

Molton Brown Tobacco Absolute shower gel
Dark chocolate florentines
Paperback non-fiction book on a subject he loves
Rare whisky miniatures
Bamboo socks
Uniqlo Tee-shirt
Snowy from Tintin keyring

LikeSilentRaindrops · 27/10/2020 22:42

Some fab ideas here! In common with many of you, I too am firmly against buying ‘tat’. My MiL still does stockings and I always feel horrendously guilty at the amount of (quite expensive) stuff I shuffle off to the charity shop each year. Plus I think half the fun of stockings is stuffing them full of handy everyday things that you always need but never seem to have.

@CompleteBarstool I never knew sprout ketchup was a thing, I’ve googled it and got gherkin ketchup. Is that the same thing? DH loves gherkins, so I might try that.

@EcoCustard are the Penguin books the little black classics? I’d never heard of them before googling just know - they look perfect!

@AnnPerkins LOVE the spirit level; that’s just the kind of gadget he likes to whip out of his toolbox to demonstrate his superior DIY skills Grin

@dolphinpose it sounds like we have v similar DHs, right down to the Tintin love - are the non fiction books usually on some incredibly niche (and dry sounding) political or historical event that you’ve never heard of?! The gift I’m not sure I’ve ever quite beaten was a CD and book of the most influential political speeches of the 20th century that I bought 10 years ago. I think he still listens to them now...

I have put in whisky miniatures, cheese (wrapped in wax) and running socks.

Leeds2 · 27/10/2020 23:46

LikeSilent, I couldn't find the sprout ketchup either!

OldGreyBoots · 28/10/2020 00:30

@recklessgran do you happen to have a link to the bendy torch you've got? DP is an avid car fiddler and it sounds useful Grin

OldGreyBoots · 28/10/2020 00:49

Thanks very much, that's really helpful!

FrancesHaHa · 28/10/2020 05:15

We don't usually do stockings, but I've thought of some small things I'd like to get DP this year so I thought I'd do one. Do you actually use a proper stocking to put it all in? Or something else? I was thinking of maybe a cloth bag that can be reused.

So far I have on the list:

Woolly hat
Gloves
Belt made from recycled inner tube
Christmas socks
Christmas beer
Bamboo toothbrush
Snack box (like graze)
Mask (as he keeps losing them)

icklekid · 28/10/2020 05:26

I’ve not a huge amount to add but thank you so much for all the inspiration I’m normally rubbish at dh stocking because I’ve focused on the children but I’ve got so many good ideas on here now so he is in luck! I once bought a winter veg seed box and wrapped the separate parts which was nice like a previous poster of going down a theme...

dolphinpose · 28/10/2020 06:51

Grin Grin Grin @LikeSilentRaindrops They are. He clearly strings us both along.

dolphinpose · 28/10/2020 06:54

@FrancesHaHa - where did you find the recycled inner tube belt, please? DS1 is veggie now, has given all the leather belts he had in the past to his non-veggie brother. He loves all recycling. I'd love to get him that.

FrancesHaHa · 28/10/2020 07:18

I've order the belt from cycle of good. It hasn't come yet but the company was recommended on the small businesses thread so thought I'd give it ago as DP doesn't wear leather

LikeSilentRaindrops · 28/10/2020 08:02

@FrancesHaHa we do - even the cats and dog have their own stockings Blush Christmas was a bit crap for me growing up, so I like to eke it out. I always put useful stuff in; I think the purpose of them is to have things in for the kids to open and play with first thing and / or to go back to when there’s down time later in the day. I often find DH puzzling over installing a smart plug at 4pm sort of time or picking up a puzzle after he’s had another quick rifle through his stocking.

Sorry it looks like the Sprout Ketchup is out of stock.

It's by the Sauce Shop who have other ones that might be interesting (available on Amazon).

@lexloofah thanks for the sausage magazine!

anibendod · 28/10/2020 14:12

aldi do their own version of graze snacks (tubs and packets) which have gone down well with my DH. In a similar vein, high protein snacks and jerky also got a good response

toiletries, especially if slighter posher than he would get himself. Things he secretly enjoys but would never buy himself as it's not 'manly' - face mask, bath bomb, chapstick, decent hand cream

razor pit for 'sharpening' (more like cleaning) razor blades. Saves money too as it extends the life of each cartridge.

gift cards - cinema / coffee shop / steam in particular get a good response

flavoured coffee / coffee syrup

ultralightweight gloves with magic finger (so he doesn't have to take them off to use his phone)

alcohol miniatures and beer

'posher' air freshener for the car than the tree shaped things he buys himself

power pack - anker do some great portable ones

slipper socks with grippy soles

on the sweet front, a wilkos tub of pic n mix was a big hit. Morrisons often has a good range of American sweets. Posh chocolate always a hit

scratch card or lottery ticket

MarshmallowManiac · 29/10/2020 00:24

Just Brazils, nuts, dark chocolate and dark chocolate orange, lary socks, boxers, camera stuff, bbq apron, celebrity mugs, toiletries, shaving gel.

Londoncatshed · 29/10/2020 09:11

@CompleteBarstool thanks for the outside bbq bottle opener idea. Just ordered one.

amiw · 31/10/2020 21:47

Wireless headphones
Driving shoes
Wireless charger
Acqua di parma shower gel
l'occitane aftershave
Magnetic wrist belt
Led magmetic torch
Leather duffel
Wolf of wall street signed print
Track day

HedgerowRobin · 31/10/2020 23:40

Amazing ideas here - I'm definitely going to get the pencil spirit level @AnnPerkins, although DP probably doesn't need anything else!

So far I have:

Air duster (for cleaning keyboards etc)
Tin of fancy coffee
Giant mug
Elasticated headlamp
Star Wars socks
Stubby screwdrivers
Twiglets tub
Reese's dipped pretzels
Knife sharpener
Uno flip
Mug cake mix
