We live in London and usually have fore rib of beef on the Braai / barbecue for Christmas. However this year our 8yo has requested Turkey.
Where do you recommend to buy turkey and does anyone have experience of doing this on the braai?!

I get a turkey crown from the local butcher, who takes pre orders from now then we collect it on Christmas Eve. A crown is great for us as there are only 2 adult meat eaters and 3 children who will pick at it but not eat a lot. It's just the breast meat. You could probably pick up a turkey leg or some breast steaks if that's easier for the braai, a whole turkey would take a very long time to cook through unless it was jointed and cooked separately.

What’s a braai?

I think you’d struggle to cook a whole turkey on a barbecue and ensure it was cooked through.

A good butcher could advise, and order you a nice one. You also need to cook turkey so it’s not dry- which means basting; can you baste on a barbecue without it affecting the coals?

DH & family are South African and always do a turkey on the braai.

They have always cooked theirs on a beer can propped upright.
