Please help me choose outdoor lights

Never had outdoor Christmas lights before but I am so fed up of 2020 I was to make the house really welcoming when DC come back from dreary isolation at uni.

On other people's houses, I love the look of a single string across the front of the house, which has some cascades down - of stars or berries or snowflakes or icicles. I prefer warm ambers and creams not cool lights. I have no idea where to start, what to look for, which brands to choose or avoid. Don't even know where to buy them. Our garden centre seems to only sell tiny LED lights that are quite weak. I want something really welcoming. Would really appreciate your advice.

This is the sort of thing I'm after but have hunted online and can't find.

They are icicles. I hang them from my front gutter

dementedpixie · 25/10/2020 08:28

I think ours were from The Range

Thanks @dementedpixie.

Does anyone else have any recommendations on brands and styles that are genuinely warm white or amber and fairly bright, not faint LED?

Thanks.

Garden centres, B&Q, Wilcos, B&M, John Lewis and Amazon will probably all have some just search for warm white lights. I imagine stock will really start to ramp up over the next few weeks once the Halloween stuff has shifted.

Look for 'warm white'. Cool white (or white) is that cold blue-white.

dolphinpose · 25/10/2020 18:51

I've looked in all these places and still feel a bit baffled. On other people's houses I see these gorgeous long strings of warm white icicles but when I look in the shops all I see is very feeble thin strands of LED for £££. I don't mind paying but want something really noticeable. That's why I am hoping for someone to recommend a specific set of lights.

Have you seen them switched on?
The led ones are nice and bright, don't be fooled by the small bulbs on the leads.
I have what you have pictured (although I do have the cool white) and they are very bright. Neighbours have the warm and they are not dull at all.
You can get them anywhere, mine were from ebay.

Any that take your fancy from this lot?

dementedpixie · 25/10/2020 19:21

I put 2 strings up and it makes it look better. I like blue and white though

Sorry I can't do short links but I got some from here for this year www.xmasdirect.co.uk/search/filament

Is this more what OP is looking for?

dolphinpose · 25/10/2020 21:48

Thank you all. @dementedpixie - I think your idea of doing two strings together is what looks good. I'm going to try that with the warm LEDs.

@Imsayingnothing - thank you for that link. I like that you can connect shorter sets together to make the right length. This is really helpful. I'm getting there. Will order some and try them out for Halloween.

I use DZD for lighting & oversized baubles... They are a trade supply business and I've found their prices are often good value.
