I've just received these in the post.

Wrist warmers by Turtle Doves £26. Recycled cashmere.

I bought 2 pairs as Christmas gifts for DSiL and friend, but I'm having one of the pairs because they are just so lovely and just a bit different. They come in lots of colour options.

What else have you all found for gift ideas that are lovely or just a bit different.

@ScrapThatThen thank you for that link- It is beyond perfect for someone on my list! I would never have thought of that.

@QueenoftheIceAge and @CovidClara I'm not a PR person for them, I like them, use them, they're semi local and ethically decent. Most of the stuff on this thread (and I'm happy to include them too) is boring and average, the same old tedious 'female' shite of candles and handcream and other naff crap. There is no such thing as a female gift so I don't know why they've been singled out for scorn, nor why age has anything to do with why someone would like them.

I haven't used these yet but like the look of these cake based sets, especially the ones that can fit through a letterbox:

For yarn lovers - an attic 24 blanket kit . I’d love one of these as a gift . I don’t like smellies of any kind other than perfume and bars of lovely soap .
I wouldn’t appreciate a flower subscription but would adore a houseplant one . I love anything for my garden .

Sachertorte from Betty's is something I'd love. I think I might have to just buy it for me as no one else will take the hint.

Thank you for posting this web page. I have just ordered a letter box cake set for a friend.

The London Yarn Company -

londonyarn.co.uk

This independant shop sells wonderful hand dyed yarn and wools and knitting needles and kits and books via mail order and through the shop. Lynsey (the owner) is really helpful if you need advice.

ha! just posted for ideas for SIL and didn't see this in thread.

I got these gloves for myself about a year ago but am getting them for an auntie of mine who's quite glam too in the navy.

@CleverCatty They look lovely too, with their fingers!

I have to say the wrist warmers do keep your fingers warm as well. Not sure how, must be a little magic knitted in.

Glad to see this thread has had a bump, I remember finding it so useful (and I love Turtle Doves fingerless gloves in my 30s.... I definitely don't think they're only for "older" women.)

A St Eval reed diffuser is top of my list after going to my sister's house and she had one in her hallway and it smelled amazing. She said she'd had it a few months and it was still going strong.

Horological · 25/07/2022 22:01

Thanks for this thread. Some great ideas!

I don't understand why you use the word 'female' though. It's like saying vehicle when you mean car. It sounds like a police report. Why not say woman?

daisydalrymple · 25/10/2020 11:56

covidclara I wouldn’t see them as a generic female gift either as they certainly wouldn’t appeal to my younger work colleagues for example. Luckily I know my sister, mum and MIL very well and know they would love them as unfortunately we all suffer with joint issues. Ages range from 49 - 76.

I don't think there's anything that is guaranteed to appeal to every woman. You have to think of the individual as well as their sex.

I have an arthritic right hand and wrist so they would appeal to me if I hadn't crocheted my own. Actually crochet is great physio for arthritic hands so maybe a crochet set would be good for some.

MissyB1 · 03/08/2022 20:04

I'm loving the cake ideas! Going to get my sister the letterbox fruitcake one.
And i might ask my adult ds for a Betty's cake for me.

Cuwins · 03/08/2022 23:06

I think my mum would love the wrist warmers as she is always cold! However my budget for her is £20 has anyone seen anything similar a bit cheaper?
I always get my sister bath bombs as she loves them. Neither of us are at all girly and most of the things on this thread would not appeal to us at all but she does love a bath bomb. Also have brought her Disney PJs from my baby daughter this year. However she would love the letterbox cake!
MIL I'm thinking a photo book from baby.

@Cuwins Turtle Doves have offers throughout the year so it's worth signing up to their mailing list, they often have a lucky dip introductory offer too which I think is £10 off.
