I think like alot of families we usually buy a "big" present and then little bits, however dd has just had her birthday and we really struggled to think of something that she would like.
Now I'm thinking that I'll just get little bits that I know she will like rather than spend a fortune on some monstrous bit of plastic.

Whats everyone else getting?

A junior electric guitar. I've seen some for around £60 but there is one in the The Big Red Book (Woolworths) for £39.99. He is a total muso! They do them in pink or flame.

Also some knexs or magnetics - maybe the Dr Who figures type. And the new Fantastic Four DVD.

Actually the Big Red Book has given me inspiration for DD1s 6th birthday next week and Christmas for her, DS1 (4) and DD2 (3). Like you, we're a bit bankrupt on main present ideas this year so apart from the guitar, we'll be all bits!

At the moment, I have gone overboard with Mr Men things as my 4 yo is the first of my children to love Mr Men. I would like to win the Mumsnet competition too!

I have no thoughts about a big present though.

Guitar sounds good.

Which reminds me Homebargins, if you have one near you, has Kinex on sale for £3.99, as opposed to the £7.99 normal rrp

I have a huge list of off dd1 including the pollypocket car set ( £49.99 for the girls version of hotwheels) and a guitar too (29.99 for a small acoustic one at our local music store, in purple ) her birthday is Nov though, so we're holding off just yet.

Frizombie · 14/10/2007 16:42

Oh and anything Dora!

mustrunmore · 14/10/2007 16:45

Ds2 is 4 in November. He's getting playmobil for his birthday (luckily my Dad opted to get him the expensive bit he really wanted! And we've got some off ebay for him, so a bit cheaper).

For xmas, he's having a puppet theatre (I got it off freecycle and its fantastic !!!); he's really into puppets. Then a small playmobil item from his little brother, and from santa they each get a dvd (he's having the BFG... £2), a hand puppet, a Mr Man off the persil,a xmas bath duck, and a shiny coin.

DD1 is getting a Leap Pad and books (from ebay) and a Snow White and 7 dwarfs set from Woolworths that was half price at £14.99. I was going to try and get the Snow White DVD too but they are silly prices on ebay .
My MIL is getting her the new Rainbow aquadraw and dad is getting her TMX Elmo.
The toys might seem a bit young but at least they are things she will play with NOW. Oh and the one thing she has asked for, a bicycle bell, though Santa may bring that

DottydotsofBloodOnTheFloor · 14/10/2007 17:19

ds2 is nearly 4 and wil be getting some lego and kknex (both from Woolies). Like the idea of a leap pad though.

minesalargeone · 14/10/2007 17:19

FrannyandZooey · 14/10/2007 17:55

I have a new idea: walkie talkies. My sister says she will get them - proper ones that actually work instead of shitey tesco's ones. Excellent.

It is his birthday in January hence my other thread about racing cars!
Other relatives always ask me for suggestions, on my list will be a marble run; stick insects; a couple of games (Lotto/ Orchard Games ); DVDs of 102 Dalmatians, some Pixar films; books where you have to spot things hidden in a picture; monster feet stilts.

pollywollydooooooooodle · 14/10/2007 21:52

Toothyboy · 14/10/2007 21:57

Ds1 will be getting a bike from us, and probably lego, clothes, football boots (if we can find any small enough!) from grandparents etc - that's all I can think of for now!

pammo · 15/10/2007 22:18

My DS is 4 next week and he's getting an Isla bike from us, Playmobil and Transformer toys from the respective grandparents. For Xmas, he'll be getting a Plan Toy airport to add to his Plan City collection and potentially a set of Quadrilla or Creatiles - have to rack my brain a bit more after his birthday but thinking along the lines of a space hopper and a 2 wheel scooter.

yomellamoHelly · 16/10/2007 21:28

Ds1 (4 at the w/e) wants a chocolate coin maker. I want one too, am wondering if he'll share.
