Just nosey. Lol

It's just me and DH mostly. DD (nearly 18) spends Christmas Day/Boxing day with her Dad because that's the home she spends the most time at & her Dad doesn't get a lot of time off over Christmas but when she is here she can eat us out of house and home. She can clear a loaf of bread in three days alone.

DD and I are Vegan. DH isn't. He likes to have a Thornton's chocolate box and their range is much better for Vegans so I will have a small box this year. He gets some cheese and I get some specialist seasonal vegan ones. We don't do mince pies, Christmas Cake, Yule Log, Pringles, Selection boxes (but I will get a selection of sweets for DD). I also get a monthly vegankind subscription box and the snacks in there last me over a month. None of us drink but I like a posh cola occasionally, wouldn't bother with coca cola.

What are your must haves? What do you avoid. Do you do any of the traditional snacks? How many of you are there? Is anyone vegan/have allergies? Again I am just plain nosey.

I’m a vegan OP. I don’t have any must haves but I am going to treat myself to the Hotel Chocolate Mylk new collection this year. I’ve also seen some chilli cheese bites at Morrison’s I fancy trying. I’ve been vegan for 15 years and the choice is huge compared to then and much more exciting!

Leeds2 · 20/10/2020 20:08

I don't really have any "must haves" but will definitely have a selection of cheese and biscuits, Pringles, and a box each of Roses, Quality Street and Celebrations.
I don't like stollen, or cheese straws.

Must have...xmas pudding, cheese and crakcers, sprouts, Amaretto.
Not baileys.. .love it but trying to keep weight off.

Deereamer · 21/10/2020 07:15

We love anything cheese related and we have cheese, crackers and chutney often over the Christmas holiday. I like to get up early (before anyone else) and cook a bread and butter pudding on Christmas Eve so when everyone gets up, they can smell it. DH always makes a trifle for over christmas as well.

We don’t tend to bother with alcohol or turkey. Neither of us drink really And that doesn’t change at Christmas. We don’t bother with Christmas pudding or Christmas cake either, although I fancy having a go at making a Christmas cake this year.

bearlyactive · 21/10/2020 07:28

We like croissants and pannetone (although we didn't have one last year). I personally like Bucks Fizz but nobody else in my house likes it and I rarely drink anyway so we never buy it. I'm allergic to nuts so lots of "typical" Christmas food is out, but I do like a bit of brandy butter with whatever nut-free dessert we find (even if it doesn't go together!).

Oh and smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. Smoked salmon is so expensive usually but I buy it once or twice over the Xmas period. Making me hungry now!

BikeRunSki · 21/10/2020 07:31

MsMiaWallace · 21/10/2020 13:02

😁 You would be surprised but you can get Vegan anything even Stilton. When. I first became Vegan at the turn of the century there were choices but nowhere near what there is now.

Never have:
Alcohol
Trifle

happymummy12345 · 21/10/2020 13:48

Must have: Yule log. My favourite, wish you could buy it all year.
Dark chocolate mints. After eights i love. Also love twilights but can't seem to get them anymore.
Standard snacks like KP salted peanuts and crisps which are nice to have in the cupboard anyway.
And it's not Christmas dinner without pigs in blankets. Of course Christmas dinner goes without saying.
And can I say alcoholic drinks (lighthearted)?

No: mince pies. Christmas cake. Christmas pudding. Hate them all. Any baileys, tastes like
cold coffee (I hate all coffee as well so I can't stand it). And no to any other traditional Christmas drinks, like mulled wine, hate it. Or sherry, not for me.

Lovemusic33 · 21/10/2020 14:00

We don’t buy much because we get gifted a lot and we end up getting sick of chocolate. The ones I like to buy are....

Toblerone
After eights
Turkish delight
Twiglets
Mixed nuts

We buy a few extra cheeses to what we normally have and maybe some pate.
