I'm so annoyed - we have around £60 worth of unused cards here so I thought I'll use them to buy the kids some gifts for Christmas. But oh no. You can't use them as part payment so can only use them if the transaction is less than the total and some of the shops where you're supposed to be able to use them won't accept the number. I'm really annoyed. Went through. Boots shop and no joy - got to check out and it's not a recognised card😒 and Superdry won't take it as its Visa Electron. Rant over

I think my DH was given one of these as a present from colleagues and it never worked, we never did get to the bottom of it Xmas Sad

OldEvilOwl · 19/10/2020 14:47

What sort of cards?

Astella22 · 19/10/2020 14:48

Yep and they deduct a certain percentage each mth after 6 or 12 mths

OnCandyStripeLegs · 19/10/2020 14:51

I have some from last year I'm still trying to use. WHSmiths were surprisingly good at being able to sort out the part-payment issue - or I had a very talented till-mangler but we bought a pile of books with 3 half used WHSmith vouchers and a One for All and she sorted it all out.

The others I exchanged in Currys for Xbox vouchers - £10 One4all for £10 xbox.

XiCi · 19/10/2020 14:55

I've not had any problems buying things with them. They do work like a debit card so you cant go over the amount they are for - in the shops they usually sort this for you at the till but looks like this isnt possible online.

OldGreyBoots · 19/10/2020 15:09

In the past I've managed to exchange them for amazon vouchers after a bit of googling, might be an option?

GirlCrush · 19/10/2020 15:13

our heart sinks when someone hands them out at our tills.....they are a real pain to process

so many disappointed customers

polkadotpjs · 19/10/2020 21:33

I'll see if I can trade them as Amazon would be WAY easier I'm sure.

Agree OP, they're shit. Retailers are unable to check the balance and can only use them if you can tell them exactly what balance they hold.

They're a complete ball ache and I dread getting them.

tentative3 · 19/10/2020 21:38

I tried to exchange them for Amazon vouchers and couldn't manage it. Used mine in Waterstones I think in the end.

SciFiScream · 19/10/2020 21:52

I used mine in TK Maxx with no problems and they were able to work out how much was on them.

You can also login to the website to check the balance.

TK Maxx allowed part payment. ie I bought rechargeable straighteners with £20 and topped up to the actual cost.

SciFiScream · 19/10/2020 22:06

Some info on their website about converting to Xbox vouchers or loading it into Apple Pay. Which might make it easier to spend?

They are crap, once activated make sure you use the full amount.
I forgot and when I went to use the balance ages later, it was zero. They had taken a monthly fee which swallowed up the balance.
Absolute rip off.

My mum gets these every year for us for birthdays and Christmas and I’ve never had an issue. Last year I bought some Le Creuset mugs in John Lewis and used the cards as part payment then paid the £8 or whatever was left. I do always log in online and check the balance before going shopping and write it on the card with drywipe pen as we’ve often got a few cards floating around and as somebody mentioned you do need to know the balance.
