Looking for some ideas for early/ mid teens, fine to read adult books unless really extreme violence etc. Non fiction-

  1. Aspiring medic but more interested in paediatric/ emergency/ women's health than surgery.
  2. Into philosophy/ science fiction/ environmental issues.
  3. Enjoys history, spy/ coding, sci-fi, languages.

Any ideas?

Anything by Adam Kay - funny, poignant & he was a gynaecologist

Invisible Women is great re how science, medicine and millions of other things are failing women by not recognising physical differences between us and men. Quite fact-packed so possibly a bit of a dry read for a younger teen but a great eye-opener.

Weapons of Math Destruction is about algorithm bias (so in a similar vein) - bit US-centred but a good read.

Bad Science by Ben Goldacre is always a good one.

Longitude by Dava Sobel kept me fascinated.

The immortal life of Henrietta Lacks (I think it is called that) is an interesting read.

I picked up bletchley park brainteasers and secret service brainteasers in whsmith the other day for just over a fiver which number 3 might like. Or there are coding books like raspberry pi projects for the evil genius.
