What are you buying your 1 year old if they’re DC3 or DC4 and you have everything already?

I’ve got a couple of books to replace the battered flap books. Clothes and PJs. But that’s it. I think we have literally every other toy that’s ever been made.

We got our youngest a water table in those circumstances.

It's jolly difficult, isn't it. The house is already filled with crap.

Fun bath toys?

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 12/10/2020 21:56

You could get your other DCs to choose an age appropriate toy each from your existing collection, wrap them up and each give their present to the little one on Christmas
Day? Then the baby's pile looks bigger but you're not wasting money on stuff that's not needed. If other people buy for them, ask for clothes in the next sizes.

Im in a similar situation.
My dc3 is getting some Topsy and Tim books (because i cant read some of the dross on my kids book shelf any more)
A cheap version (and i mean very cheap) version of the Grimms rainbow! I want to see what all the fuss is about

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 13/10/2020 10:26

I have this question with Gdc3. The house is crammed with toys!

The only thing I can think of is one of those wooden things with stacking coloured rings, since I’m pretty sure a previous one has bits missing - missing bits hardly ever turn up in that house. There’s a mysterious Black Hole somewhere.

Youngest of 3 will be 1.5. They’re getting: toddler backpack, dressing gown, Melissa and Doug garage, Melissa and Doug puppets, playmobil 123 set, 2 instruments, bath toy, duplo, book, baby, a 2+ board game but she’ll probably be able to manage it around then.

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 13/10/2020 11:32

Same here except dd is dc8 and we really do have everything, but other dc will notice if she doesn't get anything from Santa. Will be getting some clothes as she turns 1 in January so will need 12-18 month stuff soon after Xmas anyway, maybe some 'that's not my' books if I can find any we don't already have. But apart from that I have no clue

GlennRheeismyfavourite · 13/10/2020 11:39

I will be wrapping up baby toys that we already have for our new baby!!

Fresh01 · 13/10/2020 17:27

We have had this and DC4 was born between Xmas and New Year🙈

New bath toys
Hooded towel
Highchair toy the kind with the suction cup on the base
Bowl, plate, cup set
Hiking emergency blanket - the tin foil one, cut into 4 pieces.
Things for their bedroom
Balls of different sizes and textures

It is hard to get a “big thing” as most big toddler things you already have.

unexpectedthird · 13/10/2020 17:31

We're fortunate (?) in that DC1 and 2 are many years older than DC3 and we'd offloaded most of the toddler stuff but even still it's hard.

I'm torn between an outdoor climbing frame/slide type thing to grow into or just accepting that there's no point in buying stuff just for the sake of it.
So far he'll get swimming stuff and an aquadoodle.

A helium balloon in a big box, with a weighted string. Will look like a big present, but not terribly expensive and good fun. Kept my 14 month old nephew entertained last Christmas!
A bubble machine, if you don't already have one.
New character wellies, maybe with matching raincoat and umbrella.
Character bubble bath/shampoo - I saw Gruffalo ones in Waitrose last year, which looked nice.
Different play food/equipment for the toy kitchen you no doubt already have!

PowerslidePanda · 14/10/2020 17:55

Fisher Price magic mixing bowl (seems to be fairly new)

A few Battat toys - hadn't come across them before but things like the moosical gears are quite innovative

Piggy bank

Expanding our book collection

Expanding our jigsaw collection

Expanding our construction toys collection (as in, increasing the amount of Duplo we have)

untiednations · 15/10/2020 19:48

Excellent tips, thanks everyone.

Might add to Duplo collection but I think they’re still too destructive to play with it properly.

I'm honestly terrible and have just bought the little one (18 months at Christmas) things that he needs anyway or that are useful.....so clothes, toothbrush, new flannel, cup/bowl etc. I'm also going to buy him some children's books that I think I'd like as I'll be reading them for the next eleventy billion years.
