Xbox series X or PS5?

Trying to decide which console to get this year for ds (11 and 9).

They already have an xbox one and so have plenty of controllers etc which they could use on an x series.

I'm aware of the appeal of games pass and the deal with Bethesda etc and I have a series x pre ordered, but I'm a bit underwhelmed by the titles being released before Christmas.

The main appeal with PS5 is obviously spiderman... am I insane to base this decision on one game? Assuming I can even get a ps5 before then...

I work with a gamer who is definitely xbox focused. And spec wise it does seem to be superior. I think part of my fear is there will be less games available for that kinda tween market my boys are in age-wise.

Any thoughts? Or anyone in the same position?

I keep hearing about how ps outsells x box, but almost all my kids friends have an xbox one.

I love my Xbox One and far prefer it to the PS4, but I think when I go next gen I'll get a PS5 instead. In terms of specs it's similar to the Xbox, but with more games available at launch and better exclusives (Spiderman is definitely a selling point for me too).
Another thing to consider is that for the Xbox, any additional memory will have to be Microsoft official, so will be very expensive for what it is. Even if you mostly buy games on disc, the install for them takes up so much memory and an upgrade will be needed at some point. The Xbox One allows you to just plug in an external hard drive but I don't think this will be the case for the Series X.

Saying this, I doubt you'll be able to find a PS5 preorder or console in time for christmas anyway, so if you have a Series X confirmed then get that. Worst case, it's not as good as you hope, you can trade it in/sell it at a small loss and look to get a PS5 on the next wave of preorders.

I SHOULD be able to source one... I have a certain skill set of being able to get stuff that's out of stock/in demand.

I dunno how many friends (and friends of friends) I've helped in previous years sourcing hatchimals, lol big surprises, PS VR, fingerlings etc. I've ordered dozens of items and passed them onto to others at no profit to myself. If I can't something the one time it's actually me that needs it, I'll be raging. Grin

X box series X are backwards compatible, so will play previous xbox games, so you could buy current games. Series x is launchind Marvel Avengers which would suit this bracket.

Yes but that's coming out on the ps5 too, isn't it?

Ugh, I dunno.

Ok. Well it sounds like you've made your mind up, best call in some favours.

The online chat is the big thing about a games console ds. They use it to chat and play, watch movies/TV, or football together. They also use it to make plans to meet up.

I've always gone for whatever ds's friendship group have. Age 11-13 they all had xbox one, then they all swapped to ps4.

I agree with @weallhavewings - the important thing is what their friends have so they can play games and chat together. I’m thinking of the PS5 for DS who is 14 (if I can get one!).
