Tell me your Christmas cookie recipes

I love Christmas sugar cookies but have never found a recipe I can get on with. They’re either too much of a faff to make or my cookies spread into giant ugly blobs. I need an intervention!

Please share your foolproof recipes so I can make some tasty cookies this year. (Not the x-rated results from a stocking shaped cutter of last year!)

Are you refrigerating your dough and putting them on cool sheets? That can make a lot of difference to the spread.

I was doing batches and putting cookies onto hottish sheets and the difference between the ones at the start on the cool sheets and the later ones was noticeable.

I’ll hunt out my recipe now

Here’s my recipe:
6oz chilled butter grated
8oz plain flour
2.5oz caster sugar
1 large egg beaten
Vanilla to flavour (Or other flavours)

160 C Fan for 15 minutes or so and 5 minutes standing

You can cut out shapes and put the trays in the fridge for about 20 minutes before baking. A thick bottomed tray is better than a thin one.

There was a recipe on Lakeland Limited with the Christmas Tree Cutters . Delicious crispt vanilla shortbread biscuits that you cut in star shapes and layer up with icing .

For Chocolate Chip Cookies - Martha Stewart recipe is delicious ( I think its Soft and Chewy one ) but use way less salt

This might not be sort of thing you’re looking for but these nigella biscuits hold their shape well

I have been using the Lakeland Christmas Tree recipe since they first started selling the cutter set. Amazing that they have kept the price down to the £4.99 which I paid years ago.
The recipe gives just the right amount for the tree, but I double it and use the extra to make two smaller ones for the DGCs. I don’t think I would get away with not doing that.

@Groovester I have been on the lookout for a great sugar cookie recipe. I became addicted a few years back but haven’t found one that has the same crisp/soft ratio! I’m hoping this could be it

I swear by Gemma’s recipes in Bigger Bolder Baking. I’ve never had a flop yet using her ideas. I hope your quest has a fruitful end!
