Ive just bought a lovely wooden family Christmas Eve box. However my children are 24, 22 & 18! Seemed a good idea at the time haha.
But what can I put in it? Do I make it fun things, sentimental or pj's and chocolate?
Guess who loves Christmas

Do they all still live at home?

LividLaughLovely · 06/10/2020 22:22

I have a new baby and just bought a really lovely wooden one with our family name on🎄

No idea what to put in it!

Belle1983 · 06/10/2020 22:22

I do one for me and DP.
We have a Christmas horror movie, hot chocolate, sweets, chocolates etc basically a cosy night in.
We also have home made egg nog for xmas eve too.

He then created a Halloween one last year!

I’d love it as an adult if someone did one for me....I’d put in stuff to have on Xmas eve, depending what they like, maybe mini bottles of bailys, pjs or slipper socks, a fun game you can all play or mini quiz type thing that they are into, maybe novelty Xmas earrings or something.

myhobbyisouting · 06/10/2020 22:29

A scratchcard each
A bottle of mulled wine and cinnamon sticks etc
A family decoration with all of your names for the tree (there's a particularly fetching 2020 bauble doing the rounds complete with masks and toilet roll Grin)
A game to play on Christmas Eve (either a quiz or trapped escape room game)
Everyone's favourite snack

Jessie40 · 06/10/2020 22:40

Yes they are all at home.

Lovely ideas so far. Thank you

We always have a new jigsaw puzzle. It goes out after Christmas dinner and gets done over a couple of days.

I was inspired by Mary Berry Cake

Mustbethewine · 07/10/2020 00:08

We have new pyjamas and slippers, hot water bottle, new christmas mug, polar express tickets for our movie, a book to read together.

myhobbyisouting · 07/10/2020 08:34

@Mustbethewine you all have a new hot water bottle and Christmas mug every year? After just 10 years in this house that would be 40 hot water bottles and 40 mugs Sad

Can't you just put last years in?

NellyJames · 07/10/2020 08:44

We have new PJs, a family dvd, hot chocolate/marshmallows/squirty cream, a chocolate FC and some cosy, fluffy, Christmas socks. There’s also our plate that we leave out for FC and Rudolph. When they were younger we had a new Christmas book to read such as Mog at Christmas.

EmmieC · 07/10/2020 08:47

I made one for my partner and Dad last year. I put in all the traditional things. Christmas mug, hot chocolate, marshmallows, chocolate, fluffy socks, pjs, a film ect. Then added some miniature bottles of alcohol and a Christmas scratch card :)

jocktamsonsbairn · 07/10/2020 10:03

My 17 and 18 year olds still want a Christmas eve bag from the elf! Used to be easier as I'd put in a Christmas book and movie, new pjs, fluffy rocks, treat snacks, hot chocolate etc and a giant cracker.
Now it's still treat snacks and drinks, crackers, pjs and this year a mug each with the baked in brownie in a mug kit which was free on the bargain thread! No point in dvds as we have sky, prime and Netflix. I might put a game in this year.

Jessie40 · 07/10/2020 10:59

Im so pleased I've bought this now. Lots of families of all ages enjoying these boxes.
So next question... What are the best websites to look at for nice bits n pieces. hot chocolate sets, mimi alcohol bottles.
Im definitely going to buy scratch cards and pj's
Thanks everyone

For me it’d be new pyjamas/slippers or fluffy Christmas socks, hot chocolate and amaretto, and a new board game to play together.

Mustbethewine · 07/10/2020 14:41

@myhobbyisouting

We donate most of the mugs to a charity who holds a christmas day lunch for those who live alone. And no, we don't buy a new hot water bottle every year, they're reused on a yearly basis.

Lockdownhairdontcare · 07/10/2020 15:34

Sainsbury’s do nice alcohol minis but as all adults I would go real chocolate and marshmallows for hot chocolate and baileys or brandy to make it boozy.

New pyjamas for all, cosy socks, one movie download voucher and popcorn 🍿

Thehollyandtheirony · 07/10/2020 15:39

What about making a little photo book with festive family photos from across the years?

myhobbyisouting · 07/10/2020 20:34

Good, I imagined stacks of hot water bottles Grin

Which charity is it? I've got too many Christmas mugs (in my gluhwein intoxicated wisdom I kept 6 from Christmas markets one year Blush and the cupboard just isn't big enough). I'd love to send them on to something like that
