What do 4yo boys want?

My godson will be four just before Christmas, so I have to come up with two presents. And DS is a bit younger and my nieces are (obviously) girls so I'm out of touch with the four-year-old male mind.

I'll probably do books for one present but feel I ought to come up with something else for the other.

From what I've seen he likes running around in the garden fighting dragons with sticks, and the standard sort of cars, etc.

Any suggestions on likely big hits?

budget?

TrickORTripletEm · 11/10/2007 14:18

I know if he likes cars, he'll probably love all of the Hot Wheels toys you can get
What about Power Rangers? Spiderman?

lemonaid · 11/10/2007 14:24

Budget reasonably flexible. I suppose I was thinking £20-£30-ish (only have the one godchild, and not particularly likely to acquire any others, so not setting a dangerous precedent)?

Hot Wheels sounds a good option, thanks.

You can get lots of things from the Hot Wheels range for that. Small cars start at about £2 and then it goes up. There are things like Ice Mountian for the cars to play on, Hot Wheels Snake etc.

Playmobil? lego?

Jazzicatz · 11/10/2007 14:38

I second playmobil, my 4yo LOVES the stuff

ChasingSquirrels · 11/10/2007 14:41

Lego, Power rangers (if he is into them), hot wheels, hama beads?

stealthsquiggle · 11/10/2007 14:43

A Playmobil Dragon. It's cool, you know he likes dragons, and you can get him some knights to go with it for Christmas.

BettyBatShapedSpaghetti · 11/10/2007 14:44

My friends 4yo is into Spiderman, Power Rangers, ScoobyDoo and dinosaurs (ELC do a range of dinosaur playsets)

Playmobil is unbelievably brilliant - the dragon is great. My Ds is 5 and Playmobil has consistently been the thing he will play with for hours - on cost per play it is a clear winner in out house.

I rather feel that I might like a Playmobil dragon... (is this a sign of some deep-seated childhood deprivation?). I shall definitely check it out.

Automoblox car (hope I spelt that right) - DS got one last year from his uncle - he thinks it's fab, I think it's fab.

Ds loves Power Rangers, Woolworths were selling them buy on get one free a little while back, not sure if the offer is still on though. He really likes Transformers as well.
Another toy my ds loves is a Thomas Laptop (was around £24.99), it was fantastic with helping him learn letters, numbers etc. There's a few different 'first' laptops around.

In my experience, they are either car-boys or train-boys. If you know which one you're laughing!

My ds is a car boy and has always loves anything Hot Wheels related. The packets or 5 cars are still a winner - even though he mist have over 100 already!

Apart for anything else he does with them, he loves lining them up and playing "cool wall" whit them like on Top Gear!

Some bath crayons and a watch, apparently.

However, when we walked into Toys R Us yesterday, he did stop dead in front of the Transformers display, shouting 'OH MY GOODNESS'. (I was relieved the last word was goodness, tbh.) So I suspect they might feature on his Christmas list.
