Does anyone else have a DH who is practically impossible to buy for? He doesn’t need anything, doesn’t want anything and I have no clue what to get him.

He doesn’t drink, doesn’t smoke, doesn’t like sports. He sounds horrifically boring but he’s not I swear Grin

What are you getting your impossible to buy for DH?

You mentioned the Nespresso travel mugs...do they keep the drinks hot enough for long enough? DH works nights so at this time of year would need it to keep warm in his car from 9pm until he gets to it at 5am.

I’m used to warming one up before preparing it if that helps!
A Klean kanteen keeps them hot for hours. I make mine at 9 and it's still at perfect drinking temp at 4.30am. It's only a problem if you want to drink it in the first two hours as it's too hot! Can't recommend them enough.

@Residentdove2020 well, I think I may have struggled with some of the puzzles if I was tired and full of food! Grin However, a group might have more success. There were some that I could not get and DP got straight away and vice versa. So, it may be fun to do in a group. Not sure if it's the ideal after dinner game though

Residentdove2020 · 15/11/2020 21:42

Grin Thank you! @IToldYouIWasFreaky I think we'll struggle with anything to be honest, but this seems a good sloth activity Wink

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 15/11/2020 21:47

@whattodowithaminute Please can you share which restaurants do those boxes? DP also has a December birthday and we'd hoped to be able to get together with a few friends for a night out but it's not looking so likely now, so it'd be lovely to treat him to a restaurant dinner anyway!

minipie · 15/11/2020 21:50

DH and I are similar and neither of us wants or needs anything, if we do we get it ourselves. Also neither of us likes surprise presents, the chances of it being something we wanted or the exact one we would have chosen are so slim... We are fussy!

Instead we go several years without Christmas or birthday presents (birthday we have a meal out and christmas we exchange token edible items). Then one day we see something expensive we would like, like an artwork or a ££ holiday, and we buy it as our “saved up” presents for the past few years.... I guess we are both people who would rather have one expensive thing (too expensive for a christmas present) rather than lots of small things ?? Anyway just a suggestion! But suspect this thread is full of people who love buying presents....

I've bought my dont want or need anything husband a build it yourself hydraulic robot arm. He likes tech and science so I'm hoping if its any good it will be a little project/gadget for him. £25 from mankind.

Thankyou for the info....the choice out there is beyond crazy so it’s great to have insider knowledge x
Welcome. My priority was something for the 1.5hr commute that was dishwasher proof and wouldn't leak in my handbag if knocked sideways. They're bloody great for that but not all nighters!

pollysproggle · 15/11/2020 22:27

I've bought my DH some beautiful towels that I like.
We've been together for 7 years and he had 3 large brown towels when we met that he still uses now, god knows how old they actually are.
I HATE them so much and he would never think to replace them as they still 'work'.

As our present giving is getting less luxury and more practical as the years roll by I think it's the perfect gift.

I can't wait to see the back of those brown bastard towels but I won't throw them in the bin. They'll go to my friend who wants them for her dog 👍🏼

HildaTablet · 15/11/2020 22:33

Thanks all, I'll be trawling this thread for ideas for my DB, who's hard to buy for.

DH is a hopeless case, unfortunately. No hobbies really except for reading, so books are usually what he gets, but it feels pretty unimaginative on my part. He genuinely doesn't have any interest in clothes, sport, coffee, cooking, tech, gardening or any of the other things mentioned Confused

He does badly need a new computer chair though - any recommendations? A couple of people have bought them, I see....

PrincessForADay · 15/11/2020 22:48

Here for ideas Smile

clpsmum · 15/11/2020 22:58

The book of everyone is great. I've bought it a few times now and recipients always love it

snowgirl1 · 16/11/2020 00:21

For anyone who has a husband who loves gadgets, my DH bought himself a DJF gimbal earlier this year and seems to like it. It's like a selfie stick but has technology to smooth out video, so if you take a video clip of your family walking on the beach, the technology smooths out the jerkiness from walking etc.

PandemicPalava · 16/11/2020 00:29

Mine is getting a portable fire pit which folds down so will be good for camping and not having permanently sitting out in our small garden

Whattodowithaminute · 16/11/2020 06:14

Glitterbubbles · 16/11/2020 06:35

@PandemicPalava you've just saved me - a fire pit is an amazing idea! Thanks so much!

ningaj · 16/11/2020 07:03

This thread has been amazing!!! I have now sorted all the hard to buy for men in my life:

DH - weighted blanket, wake up light and cheese on toast book
BIL - gardeners kneeling pad
Step Dad - Gift tin of Indian spices and beautiful balti bowls from John Lewis.

Never have I finished Xmas shopping so early!!!

Clockstop · 16/11/2020 07:08

My DH doesn't consideer things that he needs are presents. So slippers, watches, wallets, clothes etc all considered 'essentials'. He's not one for soppy tea towels or prints of our wedding vows, or printed photos etc etc. I used to get him stuff for the commute - games for his handheld console, but now he WFH. Completely at a loss!

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 16/11/2020 07:33

Thanks for the meal suggestions! Getting hungry just looking at the menus..Grin.

Whattodowithaminute · 16/11/2020 07:55

@HildaTablet would a book subscription work? Provides a bit of variety and encouraged my DH to read titles from different authors;
willoughby
daunt books

HildaTablet · 16/11/2020 08:06

It's a great idea Whattodowithaminute but unfortunately he's got very specialised taste in books (academic/science/music) and he usually asks for very serious tomes he sees reviewed in the New York Review of Books. The only way he ever reads things he's not interested in is via the book club we're in, and he almost invariably doesn't like anyone's choices....I think I might have the hardest nut to crack on this thread tbh ShockSad

Last year I got him a lovely bookbinding kit because he used to do that and expressed some enthusiasm for starting again - but he hasn't even taken it out of the box as far as I know....

ElectricEels · 16/11/2020 08:32

This is a good present for any arty types. You fill a scetchbook and it gets displayed in the Brooklyn art library.
