Pokemon sword and shield on Nintendo Switch

I am considering buying a Nintendo switch console for my youngest son who loves Pokemon. My eldest already has the Nintendo lite so we have mario kart, minecraft and yoshi’s crafted world games. If I buy the main console for my son it would be mainly for the Pokemon games but I wondered if these would be suitable for him, he’s 6 years old.

Does anyone have these games on switch and could advise if they would be suitable for a 6 year old?

My just turned 7 year old and 4 year old both play Pokemon sword and enjoy it. There is some reading but my 4 year old manages to progress ok by just skipping through it. I wouldn't buy both games to start off with though as they are basically the same just with a few different Pokemon to catch so I think it would only be die hard Pokemon fans that would get both.

Mine has pokemon let's go pikachu and he's fine with it. He's just turned 6. He needed a little help at times to start but now he is fine. It's

Yes my son had it last Christmas at age 6 (just gone). Play mechanics were fine but the only thing to note is there is a lot of reading in it. Dependent on how well he reads he may need some help with it.

I'd consider let's go pikachu (or eevee) the game is more fun imo and my 7yo dd managed to get through it fine

Let’s Go is definitely more fun, but I don’t see any reason why Sword or Shield (not both) would be inappropriate.

I would just reiterate what others have said, there is a lot of reading involved so be prepared for ‘mum what does this say’ every 2 minutes!

I would go against opinion above and plump for Pokemon Sword/Shield. My DS age 6 is Pokemon mad and got bored playing the demo of Pokemon Lets Go Pikachu. When I was watching him play it was a lot closer to Pokemon Go where you generally catch things. Pokemon Sword/Shield is more expansive and a lot more battling involved, he loves it.
