Hi all
I have this memory of my grandad telling me they made Christmas cake, or pudding I can’t remember which , and the recipe takes weeks to make and at some point is buried in the garden? Is this crazy ? Or has anyone done? I’d love to know as could be something interesting to try this xmas, as am at home so much more with Dcs ! Thanks v much !

Yes this is vaguely ringing a bell for me but I can't remember details. I'm Scottish so wondering if it's a weird celtic thing!?

How would you avoid it being dug up? We have lots of nocturnal visitors.

I agree! But I think was in some kind of cloth ( Altho not sure how it helps!)

Google is not helping with this. Lots of stuff about making it weeks in advance and putting coins in it but nothing about burying it! A lot of Christmas traditions have a pagan origin which is what this burying it has a flavour of.

Apparently it's a thing. Baking paper in a tin then bury it. <a class="break-all" href="https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=amp.reddit.com/r/seriouseats/comments/7m3is1/bury_a_fruitcake/&ved=2ahUKEwiUwNqy8JfsAhWgUxUIHedqBHYQFjAAegQIAhAB&usg=AOvVaw0H9gQmNN2lA0WLEZ94IrNM" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=amp.reddit.com/r/seriouseats/comments/7m3is1/bury_a_fruitcake/&ved=2ahUKEwiUwNqy8JfsAhWgUxUIHedqBHYQFjAAegQIAhAB&usg=AOvVaw0H9gQmNN2lA0WLEZ94IrNM
