What’s everyone getting for their two year old this Christmas? We’re thinking of getting DS an amazon fire kids tablet but not sure if he’s too young.

Main present for my 2 year old is going to be the Thomas the Tank Engine Super Station, with Duplo/Magnatiles/Fancy Dress from the wider family I think.

Sevo7 · 19/09/2020 23:07

I’m not sure I’d get a 2 year old a tablet, I let DD 22 months watch night garden on her brothers the other day and she went crazy when I took it off her. At least with an older child you can set boundaries in place for screen time without a tantrum but I guess it depends on the child,as I know my DD would become obsessed with it!

In answer to your question so far she’s getting a balance bike, ride on battery quad, play dough, stickle bricks and possibly some toot toot stuff and maybe a doll

MuchTooTired · 19/09/2020 23:27

We thought about getting our DTs an amazon tablet too (they’re 2.5) but I’m thinking they’re probably still too young for it. Current present ideas are a teepee and stem toys for DD, craft stuff, kids toolset each, cars/trucks/trains for DS. These aren’t based on gender stereotyping, it’s just what they’re both in to individually!

Toot toot is brilliant, but we’ve bought them pretty much all the toot toot and it doesn’t get played with so much they’ve got way too much it’s overwhelmingso I’ll be whacking a lot of that on eBay before Christmas.

A scooter
Paw patrol cars
Vtech activity table

MindatWork · 19/09/2020 23:35

DD is 2 in November so for her birthday/Christmas we’re thinking of:
Play kitchen and food etc
Dolly (baby annabelle)
Dolly pram
Cozy coupe car
Play doh
Duplo
Puzzles
Train set/tractor toys

Obv not all of the above but these are the sorts of things x

AnnaSW1 · 19/09/2020 23:42

A play kitchen and trolley/food etc is great at 2

micc · 20/09/2020 07:05

Same as PP my DD got a play kitchen when she was that age and it was worth its weight in gold. She would sit and play with it independently for hours. It's great because you can buy more accessories for it for birthdays. Maybe a little wooden tool bench? I remember she also got brio and puzzles.

Ricekrispie22 · 20/09/2020 07:37

Wooden train set
Duplo, sticklebricks or Mega Bloks
Playdough
Pop up play tent and tunnel
Farm play set
Vtech drivers
Trunki suitcase

ANewHope18 · 21/09/2020 23:12

Gifts purchased so far are:

Doll and clothes
Maileg mum and dad mice (has a baby mouse and loves it)
Grimms bowls and mushrooms
Moon and Me books
Play breakfast set
Olli Ella barn
Binoculars
Wooden till
Duplo

Will also buy books and maybe a Happyland set. Birthday is next month and presents are easel (IKEA) art caddy and Happyland figures and books.

Written down it seems like loads and I think I've went overboard. Looking at it all it doesn't look like much and here I am looking for ideas!

tenlittlecygnets · 22/09/2020 11:25

Why would you get a tablet for 2yo???

What about toys?

They will be exposed to screens for long enough when they are older. Now they need to develop social skills, imagination, speech...

FilthyforFirth · 22/09/2020 13:20

Definite no from me on the tablet front, far too young. For DS last Christmas when he was 2.4 we got him a balance bike, toot toot pirate ship a Thomas A-Z little game to help him recognise letters in his name etc and lots of books.

Nix2020 · 22/09/2020 13:25

I'm going to get my two year old a kindle fire tablet for christmas. It's been a long year having no groups or soft play for him and sometimes we all just need five minutes.

I'm also going to get him some toys for his kitchen as the choppong fruit has been a big hit recently.

polkadotpixie · 22/09/2020 14:06

Contrary to popular opinion, I've got my DS an Amazon tablet for Xmas and he just turned 2

I'm also going to get him some Peppa Pig and Paw Patrol stuff and a Toot Toot Drivers Garage thing

Shufflebumnessie · 22/09/2020 15:15

When DS was 2 we got him something from the Toot Toot range. He loved it!
For DD we got Playmobil 123 safari set and Happyland. Again, she loved them (still does at 3.5 years).

Dd is getting a John Deere tractor and trailer.

Then lots of activity type things, new sibling being due week before.

So colouring stuff, jigsaws, blocks, play dough, books. Then a stocking with little bits. Hobby craft colour in fort. Puppets! Farm animals.

Chunks1376 · 27/09/2020 12:10

We got him a kitchen for his birthday he loves it along with safari 123 playmobil and a starter Brio railway track. He has so much from wider family though it’s so hard trying not to clutter the house with more toys.

I think we’re going to get the magnetic animals that were in the made for mums top 100 toys this christmas, they look really good.

We took him to Smyths today for inspiration and he really took a fancy to the electric ride on cars? Has anybody got one? How much use does it get?
