DH has developed a real love of cooking and want to get him something related for Xmas. I’ve uncovered a couple of things (mentioned on a podcast!) which look good but any other suggestions? I know a lot of restaurant supplier etc are now doing cook at home type sets which might work well.

sous chef

rooted spices

If I were doing that for my DH, I would choose a theme and buy a recipe book, equipment and key herbs/spices to go with it. More personal and way cheaper.

Check out The Spicery. You could get a curry or taco legend kit which includes a recipe book and all the spices needed for said recipes.

Was also going to suggest The Spicery. They are brilliant. I bought DH a load of stuff a few years ago and am getting some for DD this year as she'll be off to uni in a few years and needs to learn to cook!

I'm making a hamper filled with all sorts of stuff that I think may be difficult to get for a while after Brexit.

Does he have good knives? Could start building up a collection.

Last year, somewhat prophetically as it turns out, I got DH a sourdough basket and prover, and a book on how to make sourdough bread. . .

IggyAce · 16/09/2020 15:55

I got DH the how to be a curry legend set from The Spicery last Christmas it comes in a lovely tin and was a big hit. I’m hoping they do a similar sale this year as he wants the taco kit. There will be some discount links on the referral thread.

I can recommend both the Hawksmoor and Dishoom cookery books - great recipes! Some people (myself included) are superstitious about knives as gifts - but you will obviously know if your husband is one of them!

Whattodowithaminute · 16/09/2020 18:42

Thank you, weve got good knives and had the spicery before. Dishoom cookery book with relevant spices likely to be good-we tried their bacon naan rolls recently... a microplane would be good too...
he’s not a baker-that’s me(!)
