I’m sure I usually start to see Christmas in the shops by now, but had to pop to a couple of places today and nothing? Halloween was out but not in full force, I can’t imagine there will be as much trick or treating this year! But not one bit of Christmas.

Nope. Still on 25th December, same as every year.

PersonaNonGarter · 07/09/2020 20:41

Shops are trying to keep their stock low. It’s there online though.

imaflutteringkite · 07/09/2020 20:42

The garden centre near me has their Christmas displays up already. They were putting them up on 1st sept

NeutralJanet · 07/09/2020 20:43

I've seen Christmas stuff in Home Bargains, B&M and Poundland. Only a few bits so far but seems pretty standard for this early in September. B&M didn't seem to be bothering with Halloween, makes me wonder if retailers are cutting back on it this year since there probably won't be the usual school discos or trick or treating to get costumes in for.

dementedpixie · 07/09/2020 20:43

Home bargains had both Halloween and Christmas stuff out

xoxogossipgirl2020 · 07/09/2020 20:43

Lots of Christmas stuff out near me (although not as much as other areas in my opinion!!!)

Itsrainingnotmen · 07/09/2020 20:46

The Range is full near me. And Home Bargains.
Sad bloody lot..

Ninkanink · 07/09/2020 20:48

I’m glad it’s not going mad too early in the year. And that’s coming from a huge Christmas fan. There’s absolutely no need to start the commercialised, consumerist nonsense just yet.

EasynowPatrick · 07/09/2020 21:26

@Ninkanink I agree! It Just felt strange not to see any when I was out today.

It’s only the beginning of September.....!! Normally doesn’t start in earnest until 1 November (and that’s a month too soon for my liking....😫)

combatbarbie · 07/09/2020 21:31

Clearly not been to home bargains..... 😂 I popped in to pick up more cheap plant pots.... None, but a full Christmas aisle instead.

sitckmansladylove · 07/09/2020 21:34

I am going to Home Bargains saturday Grin
It doesnt take much to get me excited.
I actually think people will make a big effort to enjoy Christmas as its been such a crappy time lately.

CoffeeRunner · 07/09/2020 21:34

Local supermarkets have had their tins of chocolates in the entrance since mid August as per usual.

I was slightly surprised not to see any Halloween stuff in Tesco today - although they are still in full back to school/uni mode.

The seasonal aisle is half duvets & half Christmas chocolate. DH has bought his orange Toblerone already Wink.

Figgygal · 07/09/2020 21:35

It’s definitely creeping in The quality streets are in Tesco which is usually the first sign

My ds is desperate for his first mince pie but I’ve told him it might be another month yet

hm246 · 07/09/2020 21:53

The range by me is full Christmas. B&M we’re starting to put bits out

FoolShapeHeart · 08/09/2020 00:30

@Figgygal Our Sainsbury's has a couple of types in stock since last week ☺

TheSandman · 08/09/2020 00:48

Fuck Christmas.

KimMarie34 · 08/09/2020 00:51

Sainsbury's have mince pies! I love seeing Christmas in the shops this time of year, but even more so now after the diabolical 6 months we've just had.

Purplequalitystreet · 08/09/2020 07:55

Asda had a few selection boxes in yesterday. I've noticed the lack of Halloween stuff too (apart from the Range, which looks like Halloween vomited)

JinglesWish · 08/09/2020 08:07

Totally going to Home Bargains this afternoon!! Can’t wait for Christmas. 2020 has been so depressing in general

Figgygal · 08/09/2020 08:26

I’d better get to Sainsbury’s then

I saw a job ad for our local Hobbs house bakery yesterday advertising for a mince pie bakers with the fixed term contract starting on the 15th of September so they are definitely coming

BiddyPop · 08/09/2020 13:59

I haven't seen anything in person yet (not been shopping much in truth), but the Kilkenny shop have their Christmas things in stock and are showing them in their emails/online.

Brown Thomas doesn't seem to have opened it's Christmas store yet, but that has been drifting later over the past 5 years or so (it used to be the end of July, now its into September).

I suspect stores are trying to be more precise on getting through one thing before moving on to another at the moment, and the focus has all been on back to school and end of summer until this week. So I think that it will start to creep in by the end of this month.

Zaphodsotherhead · 09/09/2020 11:43

I work in the Co Op. We had our first 'proper' Christmas delivery yesterday, going out on the shelves today - mince pies, Christmas pudding and cake, some special sweets.

Halloween stuff came in too, but there's a huge crossover with multi packs of sweets.

Usual sort of timing for us. Christmas stuff comes in when the children go back to school (may be earlier in other shops but we are tiny and only have a small warehouse).
