Main gift for 11 year old girl?

I need ideas, desperately!
Dd will be 11 very close to Christmas, so really I need 2 main ideas.
I’ve got lots of smaller things which I can split between stocking, birthday and Xmas extras. But no idea at all for a main present.

Budget is around £200, could go a bit higher for the ‘right’ gift.

She already has a decent iPad and bike.
Switch was shared with DS last Xmas and they like it enough but prefer the iPad.
Has an old mobile for walking home from school, but hardly uses it otherwise. Don’t really want to replace with something fancy until she’s older and needs it for secondary school tbh.
No expensive hobbies or interests.
Trips or events are always popular but I’m wary this year given the situation with things being cancelled.
She likes branded clothes but is currently shooting up like a weed so I don’t want to spend a lot on nice items just at the moment. No interest in makeup or jewellery.

I’m completely stumped! All ideas no matter how crazy very welcome!

Does she like technology - my DN got a Sphero last year and loved it.

SlatternIsMyMiddleName · 25/08/2020 21:33

I am in a similar boat - birthday and Christmas 2 days apart.

DD doesn’t have her own iPad/ lap top so she is getting one of those as one of the presents. Fortunately she loves beauty stuff so I will be getting her make up etc. She keeps borrowing my ghds rather than using her cheapy straighteners, so I think I will get her own set of ghds.

Both my DCs have asked for AirPods but there is no way that is going to happen. They are far too easily lost and I cannot be convinced they are anything but overpriced nonsense.

Mumto3thatsme · 25/08/2020 22:22

Following for ideas!
Dd 11 too, I think we’re going with an electric scooter as she’s not a fan of her v-shaped one and is quite lazy so should be right up her street 😂

She loves her pandora bracelet we got her for her birthday so will add a charm at Christmas and a Spirograph was a big hit too but otherwise we’re pretty stumped

Wholeholes · 25/08/2020 22:25

Watching as have no idea!

I think AirPods will be the thing that lots of them ask for judging by recent birthdays but can’t even bring myself to google to see how extortionate they are!

I think mine will need a laptop but don’t think she’d be very excited by one as a present.

Things for her room and more complex craft supplies always popular

SlatternIsMyMiddleName · 25/08/2020 22:36

You can get cheaper versions of the AirPods but I’m not sure if they HAVE to be the name.

lucysmam · 25/08/2020 22:47

I have no idea for my youngest either this year. She'll be 11, three days after Christmas.

She's asked for Tamadatchi (is that how you spell it!?) for the DS but I'm not convinced she'll play it so will buy that from CEX or similar.

Mine's very much into Minecraft atm but don't really want to bring more little bits into the house. Plus they're not really main presents anyway.

It'd be so much easier if she knew what she wanted like dd1 (keyboard, stand, extension lead and some music).

liveeverysecond · 25/08/2020 23:21

My daughter has asked for a Polaroid for this year... she's just about to start secondary.

I'm nervous as I think the films are stupidly expensive so high running costs but I'm also going to look at the mini printers although her phone is pretty old and photos arent great!

Other than that she wants clothes and things for her room!

I came on to suggest a HP Sprocket, so this might be a good alternative for yours too. Great little printer that my DD can print straight from her phone to. I bought my DD a camera at the same time, but she now has a phone so the camera is barely used.
WeeM · 25/08/2020 23:49

Need anything new for her room, new bed/furniture? Karaoke machine? Something for the garden-basketball hoop or similar?

justwinginglife1 · 26/08/2020 00:07

Stuck for my 10 1/2 year old too.
She has asked for air max trainers but other than that it's just clothes, make up or money. I'm always stuck on a 'big' present.

For her birthday last year I got her tickets to a Matilda the musical which she loved and for her birthday this year she asked for the same sort of thing again. But like you said the current situation is making that difficult - her birthday tickets this year have already been postponed to next year so it seems pointless getting more at the moment.

What about booking tickets for a theme park?

Any musical interests? Last xmas we got DD a keyboard (she does lessons at school) which went down well.
Karaoke machine is a good idea.

I was looking at getting her a sprocket (portable photo printer) as she loves photos with her friends, but they are around £100 and I'm not convinced it's going to be worth it.

I don't remember being this hard to buy for at that age... mind you we didn't have mobile phones or iPads back then 😂

Chickenitalia · 26/08/2020 10:23

I honestly cannot remember what I wanted at that age at all! It tended to be things we needed rather than wanted as money was tight growing up.
The Sphero looks great and DH said he would play with it if she doesn’t 😁
She loves Roblox so we thought about doing a year subscription for Robux, that way she gets a bit each month without having £60 to fritter away on nonsense in one go. Don’t know if other games have similar options.
DH suggested an online subscription for the Switch as a lot of games are a bit limited without it, might be a reason she’s not played so much with it at the moment.
My mum got her a subscription to Aquila magazine last year and I will ask her to renew it, as that has been a big hit. Would recommend for children aged 8-12, particularly if they like reading, craft, baking, puzzles. It’s really good quality and getting something in the post monthly is great.
Is that too much spread out? In terms of cost it’s about right but I’m trying to decide if getting something regularly through the year has the same appeal as a big something to unwrap. Personally I love subs type gifts for me.

Also following for ideas. I think it'll be a tv in her room and a Netflix account!

gingajewel · 27/08/2020 21:16

Mine wants a phone and as she is starting secondary school I think she should, but I’m so torn. I don’t know if I want her to have one!

louisethedisease · 16/09/2020 15:01

My dd will be 11 and she's having a whole new wardrobe of clothes and shoes. She also wants squishmallows and a weighted blanket.

Londonborncatty · 16/09/2020 21:25

An Alexa and wonder boom. Great gift that will be used for years.
A kindle.

SE13Mummy · 17/09/2020 11:47

My 11-yr-old DD is hoping for an Alexa. She was utterly delighted with the secondhand ebay bargain iPhone 5SE we gave her for her 11th birthday a couple of months ago. It cost £30 and she's still thanking us for it a few times a week! Eastpak backpack is popular with most 11-16 year olds round here but the looks of things. Both my DDs have them now and receiving one as a birthday/Christmas present means less money being spent just before the start of Y7.

PhantomErik · 17/09/2020 16:22

My DD will be nearly 12 at Christmas & we're possibly getting her a laptop as she's just started secondary school & feel it might be helpful.

She got a reasonable mobile phone for her 11th.

Other gifts we've got for this year are:

Lego London Skyline set
Dressing gown
Tie dye kit
Bluetooth speaker
Piano music
Adidas jumper & leggings
Nanoblocks grand piano
Velvet scrunchies
Lego lucky cat

My DMum is getting her a basic sewing machine.

Isadora2007 · 17/09/2020 22:29

I got AirPods free with the iPad I bought for uni so dd(11) is getting them. O2 were also offering them for around the £100 mark with their new contracts etc. So worth considering those options if you’re getting other things...
Dd also likes her echo dot, I considered a chrome cast (I think it plays onto tv whatever is on your phone?), sprocket printer as well. Don’t get a Polaroid though. Not even a bargain one. 😬

Passthecake30 · 23/09/2020 06:40

Joining, my dd is 11 in 6 weeks and atm only does 2 things - stares at her iPad (roblox, youtube) or reads a book.
She’ll be getting a phone for her bday ready for secondary, as her brother did at 11. Roblox subscription sounds a good idea, so I’ll look into that. She’s not into clothes, makeup or hair yet, I think the time will come when she’s in secondary. She’s got loads of stuff - dolls and dolls equipment plus teddies that I think she will cull next year too. She’s got lots of craft stuff sitting in cupboards going unused, so I don’t want to buy more. I’m completely stuck.

cosmo30 · 23/09/2020 06:53

What about a laptop? Would come in handy for big school

maxineputyourredshoeson · 23/09/2020 13:28

@lucysmam we gave birth on the same day Grin

One thing i accidentally discovered DD loves is converse, last year I designed a pair for her and this year I’ve bought her a different style. I watch out for the sales and they’re not that expensive.

This year she’s having a new bike and clothes for birthday and Harry Potter Lego - one of the big sets, the converse and more clothes for Christmas.

DD is not very girly but loves clothes from SHEIN, H&M and River Island.

I’ve also got a few bits from IWOOT and Zavvi. Mainly Funko Pops and Harry Potter stuff.
