Christmas Movies for 7 year old DS

I was planning to get DS (7, will be 8 in March) a popcorn bowl with some popcorn and films.

Any suggestions for good films for that age?

I thought Arthur Christmas, and maybe Elf?

The recent grinch film is ace! My kids love it

NerosFiddle · 14/08/2020 16:50

Muppets Christmas Carol, The Grinch or Polar Express.

ILoveGroot · 14/08/2020 18:24

Brill, we haven't watched any of those, thanks 🎄🎄🎄

The Muppets Christmas Carol is the best Christmas film ever.

ILoveGroot · 14/08/2020 18:30

I've never watched the Muppets Christmas Carol, but its my DHs favourite Christmas story so it may become a new family favourite. Adding all these to my Amazon wish list now...

Home Alone & Home Alone 2!!!

Cherryrainbow · 14/08/2020 21:42

My son loves rise of the guardians. It's not really xmas themed but it has Santa, the easter bunny, tooth fairy, sandman and Jack Frost in it.

Netflix had a lovely animated movie last year called Klaus. I hope they do more animated stuff this year.

Nightmare before Christmas is a great one too :)

BenoneBeauty · 14/08/2020 21:58

Does he still believe in Santa though? Some of those films, whilst brill, are questioning Santa's existence so it's whether you want that or not.

The Home Alone movies are all fab - I only like the first 2 however my kids loved all of them at that age as they loved the slapstick.

You’ve never watched a muppets Christmas carol??!! I’m almost jealous...I watch it when I wrap presents every year.

My kids prefer Arthur Christmas and the grinch, and they’ve just got into home alone. They also like the nativity films, which are fairly terrible but have a sort of weird charm. They tolerate my love of elf and muppets Christmas carol. Netflix did a film called the Christmas chronicles a couple of years ago with Kurt Russel in it as Santa - they enjoyed that.

I bought the box of delights (80s bbc Christmas show) on dvd last year. They weren’t terribly into it but I’m determined to try again.

ILoveGroot · 14/08/2020 22:21

I'm not sure if he still believes, he's not asked us outright, but I am wondering if he has twigged by some of the questions he has asked us.

Some fab ideas, and a good excuse to watch some new films!

I love Home Alone 1 & 2, never seen the third one!

There are 3 more - goes right up to Home Alone 5 Grin

They loved the nativity movies too - good shout on those!

moonbabyandthebeast · 16/08/2020 23:51

I second Christmas chronicles- mine have watched it repeatedly

Stompythedinosaur · 20/08/2020 20:49

My 7yo likes the original grinch cartoon and rise of the guardians (which I'm not sure is a chriatmas film, but she insists is as it features santa).

I have an issue with the misogyny in the more recent grinch film - basically the grinch's badness is explained because a woman rejected his romantic advances. I dont think it's a brilliant message for kids.

Prep and Landing?

Wishihadanalgorithm · 20/08/2020 21:01

I love Jingle All The Way. I think this would appeal to a 7 year old boy. There is also The Santa Clause which explains how we have Santa - good to keep the magic of believing for a bit longer.
