It's Not Live!!

Who knew?

Apparently the radio version is live but what we see on telly was recorded in mid Dec. With spotlights illuminating the outside!!

Is 🎅🏻 real, I ask? 😊

Now you’ve ruined Christmas forever with your revelations. Will need another mulled wine to get over the shock.

MarySidney · 24/12/2019 17:52

I never supposed it was live.

I think even the most Scroogeish type must be moved by the little chorister singing the solo at the start.

Toddlerteaplease · 24/12/2019 17:55

It was filmed a couple of weeks ago. They posted on their Facebook site that they were doing it.

dementedma · 24/12/2019 17:58

Well, yeah. But the chorister singing the descant in The Coventry Carol has THE most exquisite voice. Goosebumps .

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/12/2019 22:41

Is it performed twice then? Radio version and tv version?

SwayingInTime · 24/12/2019 22:46

I don’t think they even sing the same carols in the different versions. I was astounded to hear that they record the Easter tv broadcast straight after, which seemed an impossible task to prepare for but then thought as a college / chapel choir maybe they don’t do as many services as a normal cathedral? Or maybe they’re just very organised!

The same chorister seemed to have all the solos except for the opening one, I wondered if that was a King’s thing? I’ve never watched it before, only listened. This is my first Christmas in a few years without a Chorister of my own.

HabbyHadno · 24/12/2019 22:51

I never thought it was (but I have a friend whose son was a King's chorister). Cracking rendition of O'Holy Night though - loved the whole programme tonight, I had the tv volume turned up to 50 Grin

HabbyHadno · 24/12/2019 22:52

Apologies for that random apostrophe, I'm blaming my phone.

Miljea · 25/12/2019 01:34

O Holy Night is my favourite carol.

Having sung in many church and school choirs, and knocking 60- (I can't but help sing descant to all of them! 😊), what brought the sanctity of O Holy Night to me? About15 years ago?

Home Alone.

Carol of the Bells, I am a late convert to that, too!

To me, they are both American carols.

Love them!

I was so impressed by the music, DS is about to do a voice trial elsewhere and enjoyed it too.

I once watched a documentary and it said the kings soloists only know they are singing just before so that no one gets too nervous and also allows the director of music to see who is in best voice on the day .
It’s lovely to listen to them
