I'm going to my MIL's for Christmas. She already makes a lovely trifle so what other dessert can I take along? Any suggestions appreciated.

Nigellas choc and raspberry pavlova is fab. Take the base, whip cream and top with fresh rasps when you arrive. Done!

UnaOfStormhold · 21/12/2019 22:47

I'd avoid tiramisu as the texture is quite like trifle. I'd go for something crunchy and maybe a bit tangy, so raspberry pavlova would be great or perhaps a lemon or seville orange tart?

DH and I are having M&S Black Forest gateau and it looks bloody gorgeous!

BestIsWest · 21/12/2019 23:15

We’re having Nigella’s pavlova too.

Elouera · 22/12/2019 10:23

All great ideas, thanks. I think I'll take a pavlova.

Oooh I was coming on to say trifle as that's the only Xmas dessert for me!

But yes, if there is already going to be one, then maybe a pavlova.

Pulpfiction1 · 22/12/2019 10:25

There is a tiramisu orange trifle in tesco magazine that looks nice.

I did a moose cake one year that was really nice.

Iceland are doing a croquembouche at the minute.

MrsWhites · 22/12/2019 14:31

Cheesecake
One of those melt in the middle chocolate puddings
Sticky toffee pudding
Profiteroles
Iceland have a lovely looking croquembouche

Pavlova is a good idea. I doubt you can go far wrong with that!

Tiramisu is not a good idea unless you know everyone likes coffee. And trifle isn't great as not everyone likes soggy sponge (I don't like either dessert!).

TrickyD · 22/12/2019 18:17

Ikiboodolph, yes and it is excellent. £5 compared with Tesco’s version at £15.

Nigellas clementine cake dusted with icing sugar and Christmas decs on top. Take some creme fraiche to serve with it.

snailywhaley · 22/12/2019 18:46

we always do a pavlova. It's light enough after the big meal, everyone likes it, and it looks beautiful.

Homemade Brownies and/or RockyRoad over here!
