Heard some families do this ,just wondering if you dress up

I won't be personally.

Jeans, t-shirt and jumper here. Reasonably smart ones though, and if I was bought any new ones as Christmas presents I will wear those to Christmas dinner (which we usually go out for to a local hotel 5 minutes walk up the road).

I'm not really a dressing up type. Comfort is my primary objective.

BasinHaircut · 19/12/2019 21:03

Yes I’ll shower and put on my (clean) lounge wear. I’m not an animal Grin

EmmiJay · 19/12/2019 21:05

Yep. New ensemble on its way. Nails being done on Monday. Hair getting done on Sunday.

MotherHeggy · 19/12/2019 21:11

No. I won't be getting dressed at all unless we go for a walk.

Ginger1982 · 19/12/2019 21:11

If we were going to someone else's house then yes, but given we are hosting, I'll be in a Christmas t shirt and jeggings!!

firstimemamma · 19/12/2019 21:14

Christmas jumper and jeans or skirt.

maddiemookins16mum · 19/12/2019 21:26

We used to. Now it’s Christmas jumpers or something sparkly.

bigbubbles · 19/12/2019 21:37

We used to do a full nativity- had about 20 costumes but the children are a bit older now.

daisypond · 19/12/2019 21:40

Yes, sort of. Smartish clothes. Definitely not jeans or leggings or pyjamas. Always have done.

DuesToTheDirt · 19/12/2019 21:47

Yes, always. Nice dress, some makeup. DH then sees me and says gloomily, "Oh I suppose I have to dress up then...." I used to try and get my children to dress up to but have given up on that one.

It adds to the sense of occasion I think.

reluctantbrit · 19/12/2019 22:14

Yes as I think it is a special day so dressing up is mandatory. It means a dress I can wear flat shoes with or smart trousers and nice top.

I would never wear pjs during the day unless I am ill, grr, sounds awful.

itcamefrombeckyvardyself · 19/12/2019 22:45

Sometimes we do. We didn't last year as we didn't leave the house but we will this year as we have guests.

Winterwarmer21 · 19/12/2019 22:50

I always buy a new outfit for Christmas Day. Bought mine today and it’s so festive I can’t wait to wear it. Definitely on the fancier side - dress or skirt.

TheBlueStocking · 19/12/2019 22:53

Yes, always.

surlycurly · 19/12/2019 22:57

Always! Even if it's just us!

CherryPavlova · 19/12/2019 23:05

Yes a little. Not something new but a red velvet dress and emerald jewellery that tends to only be worn around Christmas. We do drinks at friends after church and since they make the effort, so do we. Most people at Mass are a bit Christmassy whether that be dresses or Christmas jumpers.
We’ve about 17 sitting down to lunch, so I cannot imagine hosting in pyjamas. It’s a party of sorts.
It would feel a bit flat to be I. pyjamas all day watching television and lazing around on the sofa.

Chelsea26 · 19/12/2019 23:05

We dress as we would going for dinner or having guests for dinner so not ‘fancy pants’ but smart, make up, hair done etc

Obviously after the Buck’s Fizz and the wine and the negronis etc heels come off, no one cares but it’s nice to make an effort I think

Benjispruce · 19/12/2019 23:07

Absolutely. Can’t imagine drinking champagne in my jim jams Smile

eitak22 · 19/12/2019 23:14

I make an effort so will wear a nice dress or skirt as Christmas is special. When I was little I'd often have new clothes so would wear them. X

jimmyjab · 19/12/2019 23:17

I usually make an effort. I find it relaxing to sit on my own and do my make up for half an hour. Plus I know there's gonna be pictures!

Rooty2 · 19/12/2019 23:35

My family always dressed up growing up because of all the relatives coming round for lunch. Now I'm older I'd much rather be comfy, not pjs though.

HoldMeCloserTonyDanza · 19/12/2019 23:37

Yes we always make a bit of an effort although I’m often in my finery and fluffy slippers!

didireallysaythat · 20/12/2019 00:03

Of course not. DH wears a suit for funerals - can't imagine him wearing one for xmas day?

BillHadersNewWife · 20/12/2019 00:06

When the DD's were small and we were more likely to visit, then they always had a new Christmas outfit. Now they're 11 and 15 and they have new clothes but they're fashionable clothes rather than festive ones.

DH and I look smartish but we're only going to MIL's and it's Australia so it's more sundress or shorts than velvet and heels.

BillHadersNewWife · 20/12/2019 00:07

BigBubbles did you really!?? All dressed up as Mary and Joseph, kings and everything!? That's amazing! Xmas Grin Please tell me you weren't joking when you said that!
