Best ready-prepared Christmas trimmings?

MyCatScaresDogs · 18/12/2019 16:27

If you were 8.5 months pregnant on Christmas Day and doing a mini Christmas dinner for three, where would you buy your trimmings from? Specifically stuffing, pigs in blankets and gravy - where is nicest? How about bread sauce?

At risk of sounding like a food snob, I’ve never bought ready-prepared sides before as have only done Christmas dinner once - but figure being this pregnant is a good excuse to start!

I've ordered some stuff from Cook but can't report back until after Xmas...their normal stuff is pretty good though!

Tesco microwave ready prepared red cabbage was nice last year, Sainsbury's frozen pigs in blankets are good.
I've never bought ready made gravy, a friend who used to be a chef swears by Bisto Best granules.
I don't know about the others.

M & S bread sauce is very good

M&S or waitrose.... both fine - I alternate depeding on where i am shopping at the time..... I have tried tesco/sanisburys/lidl / morrisons and they are def the best I have a slight pref for m&s stuffing but DC are very anti palm oil so these year it'll be whose hasnt got palm oil in .
not a fan of the bisto gravy - think waitrose fresh better (although a lot more expensive )

Sainsbury’s Taste the Difference pigs in blankets and gravy won this year’s BBC Good Food taste test (and if they are anything like last years they are see my username WinkGrin)

Thank you! This is really helpful - especially as we have Marks, Waitrose and Sainsbury’s near us. Don’t mind spending a bit more as it’s for such a small number.

Any thoughts on best Yule logs?

Sainsburys all the way!

Another vote for Sainsbury's yule logs!
