Anyone done a Christmas Eve 'yellow sticker' bargain shop?

I should make it clear that I'm not cooking Christmas dinner this year so not under any pressure, but I'm so tempted to go to M&S on Christmas Eve and try and get some bargains!

I need a ham, cheese board, turkey crown (for sandwiches and cold on Boxing Day), double cream, brandy sauce etc, smoked salmon and possibly ingredients for a trifle on the 27th.

Has anyone successfully done this, what are the best times to go to all the supermarkets and what bargains did you get?

I just got a £25 Turkey crown for £4 from the co-op. I only popped in to get some veg.

Campervan69 · 24/12/2019 16:17

Our coop had the same. I got raspberries and blueberries for 40p and organic milk for 20p as well. Only went in for the milk.... ended up with 2 bags of reductions!

Not yellow sticker but Aldi was selling traditional Christmas produce for only 15p

Just nipped to Aldi (I live opposite and car park looked quiet)

Half price 3kg turkey crown, 2x half price pigs in blankets, nice bottle of wine for the total sum of 21 quid.

Oh and 2 bags of spuds to chuck in the freezer. The shelves were pretty bare tbh

I got some veg from Aldi but am going back at half 5 to see what they have... got some lovely flowers too!

Mrsjayy · 24/12/2019 16:28

Dh is ill so we can't go for a mooch loving all your bargains though 👍

sawyersfishbiscuits · 24/12/2019 16:49

We weren't going to but then DH decided to pop to M&S and Tesco... he's messaged to say he got pork pie, gammon and bits in Tesco... now heading to M&S. Meanwhile I'm on the mulled wine watching The Snowmand and Snowdog ☃️

DP is out doing exactly this as I type.

We have the veg etc but he's just gone to get the meat (nobody minds if it's turkey or something else, and I'm veggie so not fussed at all).

He likes the thrill of not quite knowing what he'll end up with (and the possibility of a mad dash to find something!).

His mum and dad, who are here for Christmas this year, are a little dubious and probably terrified that they'll just end up with some of my nut roast and no meat!

DP has just got back from Lidl with a 5kg free range bronze turkey for £10 (originally £35) and a duck for £4

SmileyClare · 24/12/2019 17:37

Ah get well soon MrJayy!

Sounds like Aldi have the best reductions this year. Well done all those who nabbed bargains. I found some half price crackers, pigs in blankets and stuffing shaped into stars (bit weird but only 25p) in Tescos.

"D" h just got back from M&S with a loaf of bread & nowt else! He said the shelves were fully stocked loads of bargains but he was so overwhelmed that he just got bread! Next year I will have to go myself as he's a wimp.

TheWashingMachine · 24/12/2019 18:17

We just got a £20 ham for £6 at M&S, English muffins for 17p, fresh pineapple for 48p. In Waitrose we got some salmon pate for 49p and two Higgidy quiches for 50p each. A good haul. Organic turkeys were half price.

Ragwort · 24/12/2019 18:21

I got a very nice turkey crown in Sainsbury’s for £4, reduced from £18. Very civilised as well, lots of reduced turkeys but I’ve no freezer space.
