Feeling bad at my 7 year olds present

So I got my 7 year old daughter a fire tablet ( simply because amazon lets you pay over 5 months) and I really am struggling this year and have my other kids to buy for. She is always playing roblox on my phone so thought it was a good thing to buy her but upon turning it on and having a good luck before wrapping it I noticed there isn't a wider range of things that you can do on a fire then you can do on a Samsung let's say. And I feel bad that I've bought her something so 'amazon' based.
I know she is only wanting it to play a game she loves and I can purchase mine craft on it for her but do you think I should have gotten her a Samsung or other tablet instead? I started xmas shopping Late this year as my ex who left me didn't let us have an xmas last year saying to the kids it brings the devil to your life ect and they lost the xmas spirit but this year we are having the Christmas we used to have and don't want to disappoint them. Being a single mum is hard financially and I see all these people spending hundreds and I just feel bad constantly 😢

She’ll find new things to play on it. I have got my son the same and he’ll love that it has a camera and Alexa too. I’m sure she’ll enjoy it, it’s a brilliant present!

All she will care about is if she can play the games she wants to :) will she really consider whether it’s too ‘Amazon-based’?

My little boy loves his kindle. He has a few games on it he enjoys and can watch videos on it sometimes. He’s only allowed so much time on it anyway so it doesn’t need to do everything.

Your little girl is lucky to be getting a tablet :)

I am sure she will be happy with it. It sounds like things were miserable for you all last year. Just being able to celebrate Christmas, have decorations up and spend time together playing games and having some nice food will feel special. That is what she will remember about her Christmas. I hope you all have a lovely time.

Get her some books and audio books on it too (free ones or when you can afford). It's a good option.

I bought a fire to use as the monitor for my son's room but realised I couldn't download the app. I found a way to download Google play store onto it so I could get the app. If you Google it, it's very easy.

She won't know or care it is "amazon based" can you buy her play store vouchers so you can buy her games ? She will only want to play her games and watch rubbish you tube videos.

Mine had a Kindle Fire at that age and it was fine. I think they played Minecraft on it and a few other games (Paper.io or something?) They use them now (9 and 12) for music, podcasts and other things.

My kids all have the Amazon fire (aged 5-9) and they all love it. She can play games on it and watch appropriate things on it too.
It’s a great present

It will be absolute fine! Both mine have the amazon fire kids tablet. We use it in the normal version not the kids version and you can download roblox minecraft, pretty much anything. Just do parental settings so that they can't accidentally buy anything off amazon or purchase a game that you don't want to pay for.

My kids have fire tablets and seem happy with them! They play Roblox & Minecraft mostly and can watch amazon video, netflix, play music, listen to audiobooks.

My kids have an Amazon tablets and they've never complained once.

Gemma2019 · 18/12/2019 11:42

It's a great gift - I'm really sure she will be delighted with it.

HappySonHappyMum · 18/12/2019 12:01

Kindle tablets are android based as are Samsung tablets - the only real difference is that the App Store is packaged to look like it all comes from Amazon. If you'd swapped for a Samsung you'd have got very little more. Kindle tablets are great presents when you add music and books.

Yes, Google how to install play store and other apps. There are several steps but follow the instructions carefully and it does work. Good luck, she'll love it!
