Best easy to make gluten free Christmas food?

My Christmas plans have suddenly changed and I'll be spending Christmas at home because some medical stuff has been postponed till 27th, so I need to be near the hospital.
There should be two of us. I am not very well so want to plan easy but delicious food. Normally I'd cook everything from scratch.
I also need for it to be gluten free.
A whole turkey would be a bit much so I'm thinking a turkey joint/crown? Am thinking M&S/Waitrose? I have access to all the big supermarkets. Any recommendations for your favourite sides and desserts?

I would check Morrison’s too, they have a brilliant free from range.

Good idea. I like their gf biscuits!

Defo m and s for a turkey crown - I seem to remember most of their pre-stuffed crowns were gf (as in, the stuffing is gf)

Tesco and coop have some decent gf stuff too. And check out gfblogger on Instagram - she has reviewed most of the prepped supermarket stuff 👍🏻

I did a full Christmas dinner for my Celiac Mil. I bought everything from M&S+Tesco and did Delia's GF bread sauce.

I got Tesco GF Christmas pudding. M&S pigs in blankets are GF and they do a good GF turkey gravy. Did prawns and salmon to start.

Turkey crown - get an unstuffed one if only gluten stuffing available.
You can buy small bags of ready prepped veg, eg sprouts/carrots/broccoli from from waitrose. Three bags is a good amount for two adults.
Waitrose, M&S and Sainsbury's all have gluten free pigs in blankets.
I've not tried any of these roast potatoes, but the first four in this list seem to be gf.
And gravy.

Thanks NotMary I'll look at gfblogger. M&S turkey crown is on the list now.
Deepfriedpizza thanks for that. I've noted those gown. Good to know good gravy and pigs in blankets are on the menu.

Thank you. Really good ideas. The roast potatoes and port gravy look good.

Aldi have a fantastic selection of GF food this year. We’re going to get their stuffed duck, their sausages and stuffing is GF too, as is a lot of their party food. Also recommend Morrison’s (check the chiller section as a lot of the party food there is labelled GF, not just in the free from aisle). It’s got a lot easier the past few years.

BloomedAgain · 17/12/2019 15:52

Thanks Delurker I find it quite confusing when some stuff is in a free from section and some elsewhere, so good to know about Morrison's.
I haven't been to Aldi in a while. The duck sounds intriguing.

Mary Berry's gluten free chocolate log is wonderful.

Turkey, roast veg etc will all be gluten free if you cook from scratch without additives. Make your own gravy from turkey juices and wine, thicken with cornflour.

I make a gluten free Christmas pud when DFiL comes. Can dig out the recipe if you like. It's really nice (if you like traditional Christmas puddings).

BloomedAgain · 17/12/2019 16:15

That gf log is mouthwatering milliefiori!
I'd normally make things from scratch but due to health stuff I can't. I'd love your trad pudding recipe for future years though!

My husband has tried Sainsburys/waitrose/Tesco gluten free mince pies and said they're all delicious and comparable to a normal mince pie. Tesco are his faves. I couldn't find them for ages in our Tesco as they're not in the free from aisle or the bakery aisle (which has a large mince pie/stollen section). They're in the Christmas/seasonal aisle. So as previously said, you definitely need to look in a few places!

Ooh good. I'll get the tesco mince pies! Thank your DH for the taste test! Wink
