I have about £50 to spend on DF. He’s recently retired and has taken up watercolours. Whilst obviously not professional, he’s pretty good and is churning paintings out Xmas Grin. He has said he’d like anything arty for Christmas but I don’t know where to start. He’s already doing a painting class so that’s out and I don’t think he wants to try different media yet. Any ideas would be much appreciated ! Thanks in advance Smile

A set of decent watercolour paints? Sketchbooks? I'd have loved decent ones, instead of cheap stuff.

I thought about that onetoomany but am really clueless as to what is good and what isn’t! Any specific recommendations? He’s always buying new paper so perhaps that would be appreciated Grin

An easel or portable wooden box to keep his paints in.

How about one of those folding chairs with pockets in, for him to sit on if he's doing landscapes from real life?

Some good watercolours and watercolour brushes.

Books with tips on techniques. There's a great list of ten reviewed here

Thank you for all the ideas! Went with a pochade box in the end - he likes painting outdoors so I think he’ll like this! Thank you all Xmas Smile

Ie bought dh (from my gps) a set of outdoor acyrillic paints for painting terracotta pots. Would that interest your df?

Otherwise art reference books. If he's a Disney fan they do lots of art of (insert movie name here) books. Dh has moana, tangled, frozen, Wall. E, ratatouille etc

He also has hobbit art reference books by John howe if that is an interest of his

You can also get nice books on painting fruit and veg. My DH has weird interests lol
