What's Something Your 9 Year Old Actually Uses?

My DD1 who's 9 always plays with something for around 2 weeks then gets bored. We generally tell her to just play with something older or use her imagination but for Christmas I actually want to get her something she'll enjoy. She's very girly and has many LOL dolls that she enjoys to play with on the rare occasion.

Kids recipe books and anything baking related. And that's it. Plays with our generation dolls with friends but never on her own.

My DD9 had a Spirograph set earlier in the year and constantly comes back to it.

Lego
Sylvanian Families
Baking books (accessories, access to baking!)

Still in regular use from last year are
Roller skates
Sewing machine
Books
Lego (generic for free building not sets)

Fredy45 · 16/12/2019 20:22

Lego but they like the sets because they then use them in role play games

Dd1 plays the guitar - she often just goes and has a doodle on it

Puzzles, crosswords and word searches.

NOT skateboard or pogo stick even though Dd2 is very sporty

Moonball
Basketball and hoop
Archery target
Art materials
Microscope
Kapla

I find that she plays in a more project-oriented way than before, eg stop motion animation with Lego/lol dolls, and we’ve been slowly decorating a dollhouse together which is a very different experience to simply buying a fully furnished one. She enjoys sewing too, although a lot of her projects aren’t ever finished.

Beano subscription is my DS's most enjoyed gift from last Christmas. He still looks forward to receiving it now.
