Marks & Spencer’s turkeys sold out?!

kleew1 · 11/12/2019 00:49

First Christmas dinner, feeding 7, looking for an 8-10 person turkey and so many are no longer available.

I’m doing the cheats way and getting it stuffed topped with bacon. However, there is only this one available;

christmasfood.marksandspencer.com/british-turkey-breast-with-pork-sage-and-onion-stuffing/p/p60062981

Am I missing something here? Do they sell out that quickly or should I try I store for a different one (same kind of thing but a crown)

Is there one which is stuffed but not covered in bacon? As a couple of packets of streaky bacon and 10 minutes peace on 24th would be sufficient to get that done and it really is an easy job.

But M&S and others who are doing this have a finite supply of birds, and also need to plan the staff to stuff them etc, and logistics to get them to the right places on time. So that needs forward planning - so there will be a cut off, which might be having run out of stock, or needing to close it down to get all the orders done and into the right places.

I’ve got a turkey from M&S on Christmas Eve for the last 3 years running. They was half price the first two years then last year full price and almost caused rioting in my local shop Grin

HappydaysArehere · 11/12/2019 09:54

I get mine from the local butcher. It is a boned and rolled turkey breast which I could have stuffed if I wanted it. He also covers it with bacon. I prefer to cook my stuffing separately with sausages and rolled up bacon on top plus a little turkey fat. I actually got mine a little ahead of time and it is in the freezer but there are plenty around if you enquire.

If you want M&S Christmas food you have to get in there! MIL ordered in November. When I host I order by 1st December. I worked for M&S whilst studying at college and Christmas is manic. They are crazy popular have a limited supply to avoid excessive food waste come January.

Also the majority of their customer base are the type who do order well in advance so they don’t really expect many orders to come in 2-3 weeks before the big day. We used to get a lot of complaints though from people who had left it too late.

luckygreeneyes · 11/12/2019 10:13

I thought online ordering closed yesterday

kleew1 · 11/12/2019 10:17

That’s so risky @GingerFoxInAT0phat!! If it was my own family I would 100% do that myself.

I was just surprised they sold out so soon... I’ve ordered the one linked above to collect Xmas Eve... as my MIL shudders at it not being from the butchers and pre stuffed with bacon!

The one without bacon is already sold out @BiddyPop

And finally that sounds absolutely delicious @happydaysarehere

There will probably be some on the shelves - that’s what I always do and it’s not failed me yet....

thetardis · 11/12/2019 10:22

i don't know if it's beyond your budget but we ordered turkey and trimmings from farmison last year. very happy with everything including delivery, don't know if the eyewatering price hypnotised me but the meat all tasted really special. ordering again this year and as far as i can see they still have delivery slots/availability.

thetardis · 11/12/2019 10:23

ah soz, just spotted you're already sorted :)

AJPTaylor · 11/12/2019 10:34

Buy one and freeze it! That's what we always did with marks

kleew1 · 11/12/2019 10:34

@thetardis just had a look on their website, it all looks so good! Think I may order the pigs in blanket in any case. Yum!! Don’t really have a budget as such so could have considered this otherwise - cue the disgust of a M&S stuffed turkey roll being considered nice! Haha.

My DP also looked up a butcher box from Donald Russell and we considered that!

have had numerous delivery turkey crises in past, was feeling your pain!

ConstanceL · 11/12/2019 10:45

I just had a look on the M&S website and none seem to be sold out?

paddlingwhenIshouldbeworking · 11/12/2019 11:13

There'll be plenty in the shops by the end of next week.

kleew1 · 11/12/2019 11:29

@ConstanceL when selecting 8-10, 3 are available, 9 say ‘product no longer available’. I presumed that meant sold out rather than it being discontinued type of thing...

I used to order a turkey from M&S. The queues wpund rpund the store and it took about an hour. Much quicker tonwalk in and take it to the checkout. There will be plenty on the shelves. Or buy one next week and whack it in the freezer. No big deal x

SillyUnMurphy · 11/12/2019 11:46

I always order mine in November but I remember going in to pick it up at 8am on Christmas Eve last year and they had loads of Turkeys on the shelf.

RockysMa · 12/12/2019 20:48

Op I came on to see if there was a thread about just that! All the ones I want are out of stock today. Bum.
A trip to the store as early as poss on Christmas Eve for me Confused

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 13/12/2019 03:58

I go to M&S as soon as they open - crack of dawn - on the 23rd for our turkey.

AJPTaylor · 13/12/2019 05:58

They are on the shelves now. Just buy one and freeze the fucker.

kleew1 · 13/12/2019 07:05

I just went and checked - the one I ordered is now also no longer available. Glad I ordered now. My freezer is a shitter unfortunately, the turkey may come out alive it’s that useless!! Seen turkeys in M&S yday but not size 8-10 (although mines isn’t a large store more a small food shop)

@AJPTaylor you genius!

Lostintransfixation · 13/12/2019 22:06

All vegetatian food is no longer available online. Even though we were still within the order by deadline...It's irritating enough that there are mo more slots to collect food before new year!! I understand that its get it there first but this seems a bit daft. It's a food hall in one part of town and a large store in another part. I can't buy any veggie meals from either before Christmas!

AJPTaylor · 14/12/2019 12:33

The queues there used to be in Marks on Xmas eve are now just virtual queues created online in November.
